Wow I was watching qualifying earlier and went out to the shop to work on the Chevelle. Very sad

Auto sports are dangerous. The risk can't be taken out of the sport, unfortunately.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

So sorry to hear.
I spoke to the Kalitta Air Transport Company in Mi. earlier this year. I wanted to thank them for donating their air-transportation services to Billy Graham's "Samaritan's Purse" overseas ministry.
A real classy organization. Scott will be missed.

It seems like there has been a lot of deaths in the NHRA pro classes lately. This is unfortunate. I hope it doesn't cause outsiders to view drag racing, or motorsports in general in a negative way.
I have known of people dying in truck/tractor pulling accidents. You wouldn't think at speeds of 20mph that there is a chance of this happening, but it does. All of motorsports will suffer when a tragedy happens either to a competitor, or spectator.
NASCAR seems to have made great strides toward making it's pro ranks safer. All we can hope for at this point is for something that can be learned from this NHRA death that will make the sport safer for future racing generations.
A great legacy would be to be able to say such, and such was implemented in the wake of so, and so's death that has made this sport safer.........The HANS device, and Hutchens device come to mind primarily. We'll never know -thank GOD- how many have not died because of these advancements.
I can remember all the way back to the 80s when Connie Kalitta was racing. He always seem to be in a positive mood. I hope this can serve him at this point in his life. My prayers are with the Kalitta family. I know I wouldn't be able to fathom loosing one of my sons.

Warning
If you see the replays, make sure there are no kids around.
The car exploded in flames toward the end of the strip.
The resulting ball of fire ran to the end of the shutoff area and hit something at the end.
The explosion looked to be 70-80 feet in the air.
Extremely graphic
