Yup, got one under my island sink too. Well guess it's time to trade

It should be some type of spring loaded flapper inside it. It opens when there is a vacumn and should normally be closed. It sounds like the silicone is keeping it partially open. Go to your local Lowes, Home Depot or Menards and they will have this under $10 part. Get a new one or call your dealer and see if thay have a repalcement in stock. It will probably be easier to just buy one and replace it yourself in the long run is my opinion. They used to be called FHA vent's but as they are more common now I think they go by another name.

I would clean the silicone out and see that the valve moves freely. I think you found your problem.

Anyone with a sink that is in an island or not against a wall ( home of RV) will have a vacuum breaker vent. They do go bad from time to time and very easy and inexpensive to change.

Oakman,
You might want to check under your sinks. You would have to have a sink location right next to the vent pipe to vent them.

It should just simply unscrew; do you see threads on the pipe just below it, the one it is attached to? I cannot tell by looking at your picture if there are any threads on it. It may be that this is a new type of fitting that is glued-onto the piping?!?!

estesbubba,
If the device has been damaged by getting silicon on it, I'd replace it. The seal is pretty delicate and the replacement is pretty inexpensive. The ones I've seen on trailers (including Wildcats) are smaller than the ones you see at Lowes/Home Depot, so it will probably be better to get one from an RV store. If you're in a pinch, you coulde cover it with a plastic bag tied to keep the air out while traveling, this would keep it from leaking on the road as a temporary fix. Remove the bag while using the sink.
Good Luck,
Doug

geese bubba, just replace that thing. I would never try to fix something that inexpensive. I grabbed one off the shelf at Lowes the last time I needed one for my sump pump drain in the house. The valve had gunged up after 5 years. I bet the rv one has the same threads as the house ones.
Just ask the pluming guy where are the screw in pvc vacuum breakers or show him the one you toted in with you. If you are the person that has to have an "RV" one go there.
I cannot believe the "knowledge" displayed here in some of the posts.
Lets get er done and have a cold one.

If you do go the Lowes/Home Depot route, check the clearance around your vent first. The Lowes/Home Depot units are significantly larger than the RV style units. Either will work fine, but you might have space/clearance problems with the home style units.

Doug
