I have been getting notices from several different pet food companies indicating they will be having substantial price increases starting July 1. They indicate increased costs of raw material and energy as reasons and they have to pass on the increases to maintain quality.

PLEASE DO NOT get into a discussion about merits or quality of commercial pet foods versus raw, natural, holistic or any other, I'll delete them.

This is for information purposes so you can stock up before July 1.

Thanks for the info!

I had one of my dogs into the vet last week for an ongoing intestinal issue, and we discussed the pros and cons of putting her on i/d for a few weeks. He told me the Science Diet "prescription" products are going up 12%.

I guess we'll soon be seeing similar price increases in most pet foods.

I was just telling my kitty that she was already eating me "out of house and home."

Pets are worth it. We'll find a way to adjust to increased prices.

Thanks for the heads up.

We've been buying Flint RIver Ranch via mail order. I think I'll order ahead by a few bags and throw them in the freezer for later use. I can probably fit in enough to last the summer anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

My supplier got hit with the increase too.

The way the economy is going it was just a matter of time when it trickled down to pet food too.

Even the ethanol had an affect on horse food.
All the farmers ripped up their hay fields to rush to plant corn for the big bucks.
Hay is at an all time high this year from lack of fields, and grain has doubled because of the increae in the price of corn for ethanol.

Luckily my dog food supplier called me before the anticipated increase so I could buy my big stash of food before hitting the road.

Only thing was when I got back to the MH, I didn't know where I was going to put it all!

Took me 2 days before I figured out that under the sofa is a great place to line up all the bags out of sight!

Dr. Doug, thanks for the heads up on the increase. We had planned on stocking up next week before we left on our trip, but guess we'll do it this week instead!
