Never stayed there but we drove through it last year. It looked pretty nice. The sound front sites are sandy. Might be a little tough with a big trailer or rig. Great view of the sound. Sunsets will be great. The camp store looked well stocked. The Outer Banks is a great place for vacation. We are going to be staying further south at Hatteras Sands in the village of Hatteras. There are plenty of CG's in the banks. Have a great time. Pat
Frisco Woods is on the sound side. If you're looking for a campground with hookups, I'd put it behind Ocean Waves, then Camp Hatteras then KOA. I've stayed there and its not bad but, if you don't require hookups, I'd recommend the National Park Service campground at Frisco over any other on the OBX. As a rule, the sites are much larger and offer considerably more privacy.
A bad day camping on the OBX is better than a good day anywhere else. One of the last pure beach plays on the East coast. No boardwalk, No tee shirt shops, No condos, No nightcubs. Just sand and sun.
Haven't stayed at Frisco so I can't help ya. Your post just made me wish I was going with ya.

If it's listed in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn't be messing around with it.

You must know of another OBX than the one I live on. One thing we do have is way to many tee shirt shops, condos, but no boardwalk. Anyway check out Ocean Waves, I have stayed at most of them and it is the best buy on the beach. It even has some trees and some grass on the ocean side. About 1/2 the price of the KOA and Camp Hatteras.
Check out The Island Free Press website for whats going on in the outer banks Island Free Press
There are now areas were you can not drive on the beach or walk on the beach , where these tiny birds are ( Piping Plovers ) never tried one myself , but I here they taste like chicken.
I've got a couple pictures of the place, top 2 pictures are at Buxton, the rest of them are Frisco Woods. CLICK HERE
I also recommend Ocean Waves Campground above all the others, and with gas prices like they are, it's likely they have some cancelations and you might be able to get a site there.
