I was almost to that point the last trip. Now with all the GREAT suggestions...I will try some and see what works best.
I don't have an equalizer but on my TT when I hitch up I have to line it up so that the ball is slightly forward of the coupler. So when it drops the TT slides forward and drops. This keeps the ball as forward as possible in the coupler and lets me lock it down. If I just line it up dead on I'll fight it for days.
Long/Short this also helps unhook unless I force the camper backwards as a last maneuver. So sometimes I give a little trailer brake and pull forward.
