It's that time of year when we again think about an August getaway for a couple of weeks. In the Fall, we'll be going to the Smokies for the colors, but in August we struggle to find an interesting 'new' place to go - within 2 days drive from NOLA. Sure, there are many interesting places to visit in the northeast and canada, but at $4 per gal, not very practical. Thinking about Branson again, but I think we have seen most of the shows at least twice! South Texas will cerrtainly be too HOT (and the heat & humidity of NOLA in August is a very good reason to get away for awhile!)
SO....suggestions anyone?? Mostly just someplace to simply relax, meet nice folks and perhaps enjoy some local entertainment. (One of our most memorable was a farm in the S. Carolina hills with RV parking in the back paddock and local bluegrass music on Friday & Saturday evenings!!)
All thoughts appreciated and considered! Thanks!

Yep, drive that sucker up to Ruidoso NM, enjoy the coolest days and nicest nights in the lower half. Lots of things to do, and by golly they even have three casinos there! And leave the a/c at home.
I was also going to suggest Nashville....til I noticed it was 90 degrees there today.....how about The Land Between the Lakes in KY....we thought aobut it earlier this year but didn't make it. If you could put wings on your RV you could head for the Oregon coast...
It is hard to drive away from the NOLA Augusts in just 2 days, much less find something you haven't seen 1,000 times. But, if you get to the Atlantic coast at least there is a breeze! lol
Try Savannah, Tybee Island, Jekyll Island all on the ocean.
Door county Wisconsin The New England of the midwest beautiful sand beaches, fish boils, shopping of all kinds fine food wine and fresh cheese. Lake Michigan water sports, Eight real working light houses, be careful they are for the most part on Coast Guard Property but you can still see and visit some of them. Man I am dying sitting here wish I could be gone right know. The weather is always good it seems. There are some really nice campgrounds too. We really enjoy it there. Also just heard of Nashville indiana you might check it out in the internet seems they have some really good blue grass and plenty shopping. But we really love Door County.
Thanks to all! Some good ideas for consideration - and places we have not yet seen!! Just need to get the '88 ready to go and we'll be on the road!! Stayed here in '05 and the MOHO was a true lifeboat as we and family had to flee Katrina. Rebuilding is going on all over the local area, but it's time for a bit of time away.
