Hi, new to this forum.

I am having troubles with my carlisle tires on my fifth wheel Forest River toy hauler. I noticed that some of the tread has come off of one of them on my last trip and I need to replace it. After searching this forum I have decided to replace all of the tires and stay away from the Carlisle brand. It seems that many recommend the Michelin XPS Rib. I was wondering if anyone has used the XPS Traction on the trailer. I usually go to remote campgrounds or the desert and think that I would prefer the more aggressive tread. Would the Traction tires be good on the trailer, or does it not matter? Thanks in advance.

P.S. My current tire size is ST235/85/R16 and are rated to approx 3900 lbs @ 90psi.

In my opinion, the standard tread Michelin xps ribbed would be an ideal tire for you. This tire seems to be indestructible. I had trouble with tires on my fivers till I switched to this tire a four years ago. I could not be more pleased. I have no more tire problems.

Other then for looks, I can't see that the traction tire would be of any benefit. If anything, I would think the rib tire would be a better choice since there is more there to "float" on the ground. But you will have alot of weight regardless.

generally for serious highway use a traction tire on a heavy trailer especially on wet pavement can be a bit slippery. The highway rib XPS will handle any terrain you can pull a big TH on. We use highway type tread on our implement trailers on construction sites with zero problems.

If you are a member of Sam's Club give them a try. By the way XPS Rib is the bet for your Toy Howler.

The Michelin XPS tires are very good, however, they are load range E tires and are rated at 3042# each. If your current tires are rated at 3900# you are giving up 858# of capacity per tire. You may have to stick with a G load rating.

Curious Question about the XPS RIBS, These tires are the all steel radials meaning steel belts in the side walls, right? I am guessing that you would destroy these tires if you aired them down to 15-20 PSI in the dunes. Do you guys air them down? I was considering the BFG Commercials for this reason. Am I off base?

Good catch, but I think I will still be ok. My GVWR is 12,000 lbs, so shared over the four should keep me in there. Please correct me if I'm off base here.

That is a good point. Although I like the desert, I'm don't pull on the dunes because I only have 2wd.
