There are several corp of engineer campgrounds near buford on Lake Lanier. Sawnee, Shoal Creek, Bald Ridge Creek, and Old Federal. All are really nice and well taken care of. No full hookups just power and water. You did not mention if you would be traveling during the week or the weekend. Most COE's are already full this time of year on weekends. You can check for availabiltity if you go to www.recreation.gov and do a search for Ga. near atlanta. Lake Lanier will be the closest areas for you near Buford. Happy Camping!

Lake Lanier Isles is a resort area just a few minutes from Buford. They have a campground right on Lake Lanier..

Shoal Creek and Old Federal are the best...but hard to get in on a weekend without a reservation. Lake Lanier Islands campground isn't nearly as nice(not a COE park) but they have a LOT of campsites so you may have to opt. for that....but we love Shoal Creek and Old Federal very much.
