I need front tires on my Diesel Pusher MH. The size that is on them is 235/80/R22.5. They are Michlien. The tire is very expensive. I was told by a dealer that I could use a Toyo tire that is 255/70/R225. Is that true? Any suggestions? Help please!!! Thanks!

Sorry but I don't trust dealers. Not that most are intentionally dishonest, they just are not properly informed some of the time. Try the TOYO website and ask your question there.

I would compare the width difference and load carrying capacity. Those tires are 20 mm wider, so they may rub in a tight turn. Toyo makes a complete line of tires, so I am sure they have the correct size, unless your dealer wants to sell you those from his stock. The weight rating should be equal or greater, it is stamped on the sidewall.

I was just wondering which tire store you went to. Keeping the same brand is not important, but keeping the same load rating and size is important not only so your tires don't rub when you turn or when you go over bumps but also so that you can rotate them with your existing tires to make them last longer. (however some motorhomes have different size tires on the front than on the back.) The last time I bought tires for my motorhome we were on a trip and had a blowout. We went to Big O Tires and had great service and good prices. Another time I needed a flat fixed on my Camero and it ending up costing me over $600 when I went to the crooks at Good Year who insisted that it couldn't be patched and that I would need two news tires and alignment.

Look in your owners manual and see what size is recommened and stick with that size. Everyone has their favorite brand. Some are more expensive than others. I have Yokohama tires on mine. The ride may be a touch rougher than a set of Michelins, but for the cost difference I'll put up with it. Yokohama partners with Toyo an Continental on the medium duty truck tire. Between those three tires there are tons of them on the road so I feel like I have a good tire. I would recommend using the size on the front as the rear. I went with an all position tire so I could rotate them if necessary.

Here are a couple of questions to consider:
1. Do you have a spare? If not, what do you think the chances are that you will be able to obtain a replacement Toyo in a reasonable period of time if you end up with a tire problem? When I started searching Toyo dealers across the country, I didn't like the answer that I got.
2. How much risk are willing to take for how much savings? I shopped 4 different brands when I purchased ours. The range was within $300 Even at $1,000 difference, I'd willing to shell out the extra money to stay with something that worked. A blowout on a MH cannot be fun. I've read the stories about the damage done by tires when they blow out and I made the personal decision that the extra money was really like taking out an type of insurance against a blowout. That doesn't mean that I won't but, for my money, I've reduced that odds and that was good enough for me.
We rented twice before buying and had a breakdown with each rental. I go to extraordinary lengths to prevent breakdowns with our MH. I want the absolute best quality tires that I can get my hands on as a way to try not to have a breakdown. 4 Years and 30K miles since buying our tires, I don't regret the decision one bit. JMHO.

If you switch to the Toyo's...go with 255-80 instead of 255-70. At higher inflation the "80" can carry more weight

I totally agree with the above posts..one other thing to check, whether you buy from this dealer or not, is the DATE CODE on the new tires. Some tires have been in the dealers inventory for up to three years or more. Usually RV tires die from old age rather than tread wear, and you want the freshest tires on your coach. I changed over three months ago from Firestones to the G670s and I love the ride and comfort of the tires. Good luck with your decision..I know they are expensive...Dennis

The size of tire you can use depends on the width of your wheel. Go to the Michelin site. There will be a chart there. Find your wheel width, and read to the right. It will list the size tires you can use. The width doesn't make that much difference, but you need to stay with the same height. As mentioned above, if you rotate, it could be a problem.
