Just got back from a week at Lakewood. First time for my wife and kids. Two boys, 4 and 2. We all had a great time.

Thanks for all the recommendations I received in other posts. Just as I was told. Golf carts galore, but ceases around 10pm.

My only personal disappointment was that the amusement park next door is gone. It's been at least 25 years since I had been there.

My only advise to people camping there. Forget the golf cart, get a bicycle with a luggage rack or like I have a cart to haul the boys. We rode all over the place. Nice and flat. Even got groceries/ice in the bike cart.

That's my only rant.

We loved it, may try two weeks next summer if all goes well.

Just got back from 9 days next door to you at Ocean Lakes CG..
Did you see many folks lose awnings Sunday or Wednesday nights.
Sunday night at OLCG 15 folks lost awnings due to excessive rain on awnings(i.e. not enough slope or should have rolled it up). Wednesday maybe 5-6 folks..plus the hail was something to see!
we had a great time wish it could last longer...
Next trip 3 months away
My Kids loved this trip too and they are 24, 18, 13......

we went to lakewood 2 summers ago, loved it....except golf carts....
in fact my boys have asked to go back, since now they are old enough to drive a golf cart around with the others....Lakewood always had something going on that the boys found interesting. Since that trip we found Topsail and well,
enough said...in fact leave Saturday for a week...can't wait to get on the road except for those fill ups at the pump...but once we get there it will be worth it..well worth it....

We're heading to Lakewood in three weeks from today! We'll be in block 1 middle. Had a terrible ant problem last year in a spot on the lake back from the ocean. Did you have any problems this year?

Man I was at pirateland and while it poured I don't remember seeing any hail. I did see the awning repair van riding around the campground but didn't see where he went. We were there from the 14th to the 22nd

Jamnw:
Was the campground full during your stay? Just curious with all the doom and gloom with fuel prices, etc., if folks are still filling up the parks at Myrtle.

We will be at Lakewood from 7/6 until 7/14, then going to Holiday Trav-L-Park in Virginia Beach until 7/19. We always have a good time. A few years ago DW and I rode around on the golf cart after a bad storm and counted over a hundred damaged awnings. Storms can form in a matter of minutes at Myrtle Beach. Most of the time we put the awning away when we leave the CG.

We were at Lakewood form the 13th to the 20th. We really enjoyed our visit there also. We did rent a golf cart due to my mother-in-law having problems walking. There were a few vacant spots during our visit. As a matter of fact my kids called on June 10th and was able to get a spot from June 14th-20th.

Lots of people lost awnings. The person right behind me lost his. Looked like a fairly new camper too. Didn't seem to do any structural damage to the trailer though. Did not notice the hail, the rain was something else though. Whew.

The campground was at least 95% full. The guy next to me tried to get another week in the park, but they would not let him. They said lots of reservations on the spots for July 4th. Fuel prices do not seem to be stopping vacationers.
I talked with some of the staff, they all said this year has been slow up until a week or two ago.

We stayed in 2N, lot 6222, not a single bug problem. Saw a few bee's and just a few ants. Not saying you are messy, could have been the person before you, but we are diligant about picking up after our kids, and don't pour sodas or any other sugar type drinks on the ground. We had the any problem at a local cg once, and have since tried very hard to avoid any problems with them.

I envy all that are going. I had my first day back at work today. Bummer....
