I know about alternative resources, and there is another I can't recall in SD, (I'm sure someone will tell me)...but I'd like to hear what you like, and what you don't like, about your SD residency and about the mail service you use.
Help me choose. I haven't much time.
Note: I'm willing to hear from people who favor FL or TX for residency as well....I know Escapees is in TX, but don't know who one would use for mail in FL.
Thanks! - from the one who's life is now upheaved!

Hi Crusin, A year ago we were in the same position you are. We didn't know which way to go. We decided to go with alternative resources because some of our full time friends raved about them. I can truthfully say that after a year of being with them, they are everything they claim to be. I can't think of one thing that I haven't been happy with. They took care of our registrations, our vehicle license tags with no hassle at all. We went up for a couple of days to get our drivers license, again, no problem. The mvb is next door to alternative resources. But anyway, you asked about mail. It comes like clockwork. Give them a day or two before your mail out day, let them know where you'll be and it's there. I think they are great! By the way, I don't work for them. Dave

We have been with My Dakota Address for two years now, Run by Terri Lund she has been great to work with. One thing we like is the daily email she sends listing the mail she has received, You can tell her to 'save it' 'toss it' hold or send it to you. Another thing we like about her service is if she receives something you feel you need to see ASAP she will scan it and email it to you same day. She will also prepare all the paper work for you to just sign to become a SD resident(driver lic.,plates and Voter card). Also she has many contacts to help you with Lawyers, Ins., if you have the need.
I have used Alternative Resources since October, 2001, and have never had a problem with anything, in fact it has been flawless; mail forwarding, drivers license, voter registration, vehicle registration, wills, insurance. Call them 1-800-477-2664 and tell them PMB #1293 referred you to them.
We also chose Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls, SD, have been happy with them, and have met many of our "neighbors" along the road, who also are happy with them.
This part still confuses me.
Are there mail services that you don't have to go and get a dr. lic from that state? Or is it a package deal.
I won't be arriving in TX or SD for at least 2 months (have not decided on which state to pick for resident state), so I am in limbo on how to get my mail for the next couple of months?

You can use anyone for a mail service. We picked Alternative Resources long before we left CA. You do not have to become a resident of the state in which you have a mail forwarding service. You can be a resident of any state and have your mailing address anywhere else.
