Does anyone know if the weather is good at casa de fruita or is it smoky due to the fires? I was thinking of going there this weekend. Thank you.

The Pacheco Pass area (hi-way 152) gets its cooling evening breezes from Monterey Bay, there is some smoke in the area but should be clear by the weekend, weather last few days has been pretty cool but should warm up a little for the weekend, as a side I would recommend detouring around the construction at the 152-156 intersection, take hi-way 25 south of Gilroy to Shore road, left on Shore through Dunnville to 156, left on 156 to merge into 152...maybe you'll miss the worst of the traffic

The air quality is okay - some haze but not terribly smoky now.

Casa de Fruita is basically just a big asphalt parking lot but it's a good stop over point and nice if you want to hit their shops and such. It will be hot during the day but fairly cool at night. You will hear road noise from 152 at night making leaving windows open almost not possible. The 152/156 flyover is supposedly completed (I have not driven through yet) so this shouldn't be an issue. Friday and Sunday traffic on 152 through Gilroy is always heavy so plan appropriately if you head this way.

Getting reservations at New Brighton, Sunset, or Seacliff is almost assuredly impossible. These camp grounds fill 7 months in advance when they become available on Reserve America. Other options are Betabel RV Park in San Juan Bautista, and more coastal sites at Santa Cruz KOA, Moss Landing KOA (was Moss Landing RV Park), Marina Dunes RV Park.
