Okay- so we've had this brand new trailer for just a few months- have used it 5? times- and it's been in the shop more 3? times already...ugh...anyway-the last time it was there, it was because the flush valve was leaking and needed to get repaired- dealer did repair the flush valve (i'm sure the toilet had to come out for that job)-however, NOW we keep having the scent of chemicals in our trailer-mainly whenever the bathroom fan is running.... WHY??? WHAT CAN WE DO???? we've changed chemicals- we've flushed well (we have a flush valve also- so that tank is getting clean)-we've removed the toilet-and sealed the flange, we've replaced the rubber toilet seal-What's left??? ANY INPUT would be great! Bringing back and forth to the dealer is a major hassle-50 miles each direction- not good on the gas bill!!!
HELP!

Thinking that you have cleaned and deodorized the tanks, here is a few you may want to check.

> make sure that the fan is exhausting air and not pulling it in. Quick way to check is hold a sheet of paper up to the fan and see if it sucks up and away.
> Check the vents on the tanks. May be clogged and the reverse foul smell is coming out. You could blow air into the toilet with a small fan and have someone check on the roof end to see if its coming out.
>Here is a good product that helps keep the area ventilated 24/7. Vent Covers

Thanks- we'll try ANYTHING- this is horrible... I know the bathroom fan is pulling the correct direction- we've run your little test already. Do you have any thoughts on- the "P" trap issue- do you think this could be the culprite? or no?

Very good link. I had not thought about running water through the vents in the reverse direction.

On our new 5th wheel we had sewer odor coming back into trailer everytime we flushed the toilet. I found that the vent pipe on the roof was a 1/2" to long so that with the vent cover installed it would act as a plug as it did not have any gap between it and the cover. All I did was cut a little bit off the end with a hacksaw.
You could install a cyclone vent on top and they work good I found ours at Walmart in rv section.

I've occasionally had an odor after towing (well, not me personally ), and I believe it's from the trap in the tub drying or shaking out, or from negative pressure from having a couple maxx-air covers open while driving. If I leave the maxx-airs closed, there is no odor. Try plugging the tub (and other drains) and see if it goes away next time you run your fan.

EDIT: Ok, I just realized that you're smelling chemicals, so it's probably not your gray unless you treat that as well. Maybe you could force smoke down the vent and see where it comes out...

My guess would be no water in the P trap and the fan is pulling the odors out of the tank. Does your bathroom sink dump into your black tank? If not do you only get the odor when flushing? If so not much you can do except bleach the tanks as with the fan on and commode open the fan is going to pull the odors out. What type of chemical smell is it? Something like PVC glue?

Definitely pull off the vent covers and check. I also had the chemical smell...I pulled off the cover for another reason and found an abandoned nest...went in at least 3 inches deep.
