I've had mine to my dealer several time without incident... He does keep things locked up except when working on them although this could happen to anyone...

One of two things happened to you - either the dealers employees took those things from your TT or someone entered your TT while on the dealers lot and stole those things... The latter is the most probable and is becoming fairly commonplace these days with economic times becoming very difficult for a lot of people...

The dealer's insurance will cover his payment to you and if this happened once in your location, it is likely to happen again so I would remove those things of value in your rig when storing it or taking it back to your dealer...

I know we were at a local dealer and noticed number cards all over the lot. Turns out several RV's were broken into and had various items stolen. And from personal experience, even in a gated storage lot they are not safe from theft. As stated above, that is why we have insurance. But I now store mine at home. Guarded by S & W.

I took my trailer to the dealer for some interior trim repair.
The next trip, I discovered the trash can was missing. So, I made do. In cleaning up the coach after I got home, I found a very nice linoleum knife. I was able to strike a trade with the service department- a $75 knife for a trash can.

I take easy to grab items of value out. Just as I do if I take my car or truck for service. Lots and lots of people steal. It's everywhere.

If we had to take ours to the dealer we would remove anything that might appeal to thieves or get in the way of people working.

Only had to take ours in once and service dept ask that I empty the refrigerator. I left all the other stuff in the TT. Was not a problem.

Glad your situation was resolved.

But, no matter where or when a theft takes place, it isn't "right" that any dealer/repair facility---or CG---should be responsible for some unknown thief---unless the theft takes place while they're working on your rig----not while it's in "storage" waiting for them to work on it, or for you to pick it up. That same theft could just as easily take place at your home. Just because some customers are too thoughtless to remove "hot" items or lock them up, is no reason to beat up on all of the service folks.

We post the same "not responsible" signs at our two CG reg counters, the showers, johns, rec centers.....and there are still many "opportunistic thefts" every year due to thoughtless RVers leaving things laying around loose.

And, for what it's worth---myself, and a number of other campground owners I know, "hire" LEOs to camp seasonally with us---and we have nailed a number of "RV-traveling thieves" caught in the act----at our own expense---not because we have to---but because we believe "we can be part of the solution" at reasonable cost. It's good for our customers---it's good for us---it helps with our insurance rates(!!!), and it helps have an authorized LEO on premises when things "hit the fan!"

That said, I either trust everyone I ever let use any of my Ts, as well as my dealer and repair facilities---or I don't leave my rig with them over night, or I just don't have anything to do with them!

As already said, you are very fortunate the dealer was willing to cover your losses. That almost never happens, and as nny12972 said, its not right for them to be expected to cover such losses. If you're going to have a lot of valuables in your trailer, may want to consider getting an RV insurance policy that would cover personal property losses inside the RV.

As for us: Trailer has not been to the dealer since warranty ended several years ago. When it did go to dealer for warranty work a couple times, we did not unload anything, no.

Reason being: We never keep/have anything in our trailer that most common thieves would ever want anyway, so this isn't as much a problem in our case. No TVs, DVD players, video games...We don't have ANY of that stuff in the trailer (we camp to get away from such, haha). Sooo, a thief that came into our trailer looking for the typical things thieves look for, would leave sorely disappointed. They might find/snag a few music CDs, but that'd be about it.

Replace the receiver with a decent aftermarket unit. A thief deserves to have the original equipment in an RV in his stereo system.

I agree 100%.

Buy the way, I used to own an auto repair shop and I had a new customer come in and leave his car for repair the next day. The next morning he came in to get something out of the car and reported to me that the stereo was stolen. He claimed it was a $1000 unit and because he could no longer trust me he would not be leaving it to be fixed. Then he said he would take $500 cash instead of waiting for my insurance to send him a check. I called my insurance company and they asked me to see if he had a receipt and the serial number. I asked the person and he said yes. The insurance company said call the police. It turned out that this customer had reported his stereo stolen at two other repair shops that had the same insurance as I did. It was a pleasure to watch him being arrested in my lot and watching the vehicle being hooked up to be towed to impound.
