We don't take anything out but then we don't have anything of value in there. The WD bars might be kept in the front bin. But it is something to consider. I'm so glad the dealer reimbursed you. You were VERY FORTUNATE to have that happen.

Sounds like an outstanding, and upstanding dealer.
Mine is in right now for a fridge control board replacement, under extended warranty, and I removed all thing of any value just to be safe. Tools, gadgets, etc, any little things that would be a pain to replace.
Gives me peace of mind, regardless if the dealer is or isn't responsible.

I was very fortunate that we were reimbursed. I found it odd that they never disputed or even questioned the fact that things were stolen. When we took the list of items taken to the dealer that afternoon, I asked if we needed to file a police report and the manager discouraged it, saying that the police wouldn't do anything, but I'm glad I followed my gut and got the sheriff to come look at the trailer and file a report.
As for a sign saying they were not responsible for stolen items, they did not have one.
Also, a sign doesn't take them completely off the hook does it? I gave them a locked trailer and there was no forced entry, so some time while they were working on it, it was left open and items were stolen. So, that to me seems negligent. On the other hand I was negligent in leaving personal items in the trailer.

In all states that I have had a business in, the law is that if the business owner takes reasonable steps to secure your property then he is not negligible. In the case of an automobile or RV, inside a locked fenced area is considered reasonable. In my previous reply on the car stereo, my business was in a strip mall area and I did not have a fenced area. It cost me about double for my insurance, however I only had three claims in 12 years. In the case of forced entry, just like you cannot prove you left it locked you also cannot prove that the dealer left it unlocked. With most trailers having only six to ten different keys for the whole fleet, the professional RV thieves have keys.
Your selling dealer may be honest, but it's the hired help that can't be trusted in most cases.
I took a car into a well known dealership for service and when we picked it up I noticed the ash tray was open!
There was over $8.00 in change when we dropped the car off and zero change when we picked it up!
I told the service manager and he asked the mechanic who did the work about it, nope - don't know anything!
Now whatever I leave for service the unit is empty of everything!
Signs do not take them off the hook. They are responsible for your trailer while they are in possession of it. For all the OP knows they didn't even lock the trailer at night. It sure doesn't read that they saw forced entry. Also shame on the dealership for not noticing a sound system pulled out of the wall. A locked lot does not replace locking the TT. Thieves are generally lazy and breaking into a locked TT is more effort than just fining an unlocked one.
Ours is in the dealer's now for some service and we only took a few things out. But I really don't think there will be a problem and if something should come up missing they'll make it good. It's sad we have to be so careful and watch out for the bad guy all the time isn't it?

Mine's in for service right now. Nothing of high value inside, but I did move items out of way in areas that required their attention. That is all.
I don't care if the sign does say "not responsible". If I'm entrusting my property to them, they ARE responsible for its well-being in every respect as far as I'm concerned.
Before I bought my unit, the stereo had been stolen out of it from the dealer's lot. They had a few other units that had been broken into. Lucky for us, they replaced the stereo with a better than original. This was a VERY rural dealership, so it surprised me that someone had been breaking in. But I agree with a previous poster. It is a sign of the times. When it comes time for service, I will definately remove items of value. If they want my plastic dinnerware or board games...they are really sorry individuals.
