We have an '08 Cardinal 5th Wheel (bought in 9/07) & the brakes squealed all the time so dealer replaced brake shoes. After they put new brake shoes on, then they ran hot, even after driving just a few miles (they never ran hot before new brake shoes). Rims are so hot you can't even touch them and you can even smell something burning. Dealer & his tech guy are perplexed and we are tired of our new camper being in shop all the time. Input please.

Obviously they are dragging. Could be adjusted too tight, or voltage bleeding to the magnets undetected? What controller are you using? Do you have a voltage display showing 0 when you are running with no brakes applied?

I once followed what I thought were the exact manufacturer's instructions for adjusting the 5er brakes and had the same result as you. Could have easily fried an egg on the rims. The problem is in instructions that have to be interpreted like "back the adjustment off until the wheel spins freely". I changed over to "tighten it all the way then back off 10 clicks" and never had a brake problem again.

I would be careful about calling the dealers guy as tech. Rename him cooter.

Chances may be that cooter has them too tight. Did you jack up a wheel and try to spin it? try it with the pig tail to the tv hooked and unhooked. Coach cooter through it if you have to. Also watch that cooter does not jack up the trailer with a floor jack too far toward the center of the axle. Don't ask me how I know old cooter is a tech at the dealer's place.

Every RV shop I've been to has one or two "old cooters". They work cheap. Yep, brakes are dragging. How many times are you going to post this?

Adjusting drum brakes couldn't be easier and not something I would leave to "cooter". They are probably just adjusted to tight. 20 min and you can check them. I like to hear a slight drag, not a free spin, on the wheel. If you want step by step directions send me a PM and I will tell you how to do it.
