We all are encountering campgrounds which don't allow you to bring
in your own firewood. They want to sell you their wood which is
"safer" for the environment. What do ya all think? Is this just
"bull" or is there something to this? Our last trip to the Grand
Canyon was a lot of fun but we were not allowed to have fires at
all. I miss the good old days when you could burn leaves and enjoy
a campfire. Us Old Timers can remember fifty cent gas and station wagons that could do everything including towing your RV and hauling a load of firewood, all your gear, and two kids to boot. We didn't have to have a "battle cruiser" that got 12mpg solo just my old Ford wagon that returned 26mpg solo and never groaned pulling 5,000lbs. Non-organaic firewood and stations wagons, those were the days.

I know some won't(they think you'll bring in strange bugs...)but I've always brought my own wood, usually alot of cut up wood pallets.I've saved alot of money this year so far by not buying cg wood.Their wood is usually green and not to mention $5.00 a bundle.

With the Ash Bore here in Michigan it can cost you dearly if you're caught transporting fire wood in the restricted areas. This little bug has destoryed hundreds of thousands of Ash trees in the last 5 years in Michigan alone. In our sub division in the last couple of years over a hundred Ash trees are dead from this little bug. County wide is in the thousands. Out west they have another type bug just as bad.

More and more states are banning the import of firewood from other states.

My buddy thinks its bull, I believe it is truth...he brings wood, I won't...

you are also unable to cross borders (e.g. into Canada) if you have firewood on board.

Emerald Ash Borer is a HUGE problem here in Ohio also. It is sad to see all of these trees dead or being cut down because of people moving firewood across state lines. Google it and you will see the destruction.

Why can't people just follow the rules. If you don't like it don't go. It's simple. If you bring firewood from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois to another state with Ash tree's, you can bring a little bug with you that can kill all the tree's in a RV park, over the course of a few years. Then who will stay there?

If I'm camping around my local area, I'll bring along some, but we usually just buy a bundle or two. What's 10 bucks after you've pumped $100 or more into the tank. No need in risking taking some harmful bug to another area. We've been hit pretty hard in our area from some pretty pesky bugs.

And if you are staying for some time you can usually find a local who is selling firewood cheaper than the CG or even find free stuff locally on craigslist.

One other thing that is not mentioned (I also agree with the ban on transporting wood do to bugs)
But some CG are in areas that will have an "open burn" ban during drought conditions...and yes even in a fire ring it is still considered an "open burn".....
To help controll their guests they will not allow you to bring in "outside" wood and they don't sell the wood when the ban is in place. Their thought is no mistakes then and if their was....it's not their fault. JMO
