We are considering buying a mid-level diesel pusher. One consideration is how well insulated are the walls/floors/ceiling. It doesn't appear as though the manufacturers publish the R value information for their coaches. Does anyone have any specific recommendations by brand on who has good (or bad) level of insulation in their motorhomes?

I have camped in 10 below zero temperatures with our Wanderlodge and it stayed a comfy 70 degrees inside. I can't say what the R values are but the AquaHot (and the propane furnaces in our last Bird) kept the coach comfortable.

Our Beaver seems fairly well insulated although I have no idea of the R values AND considering the amount of glass area.
I think having a heated basement contributes a lot keeping temps pretty even and although we've not been in extreme cold, the Hydro Hot has done a good job so far.
Cooling has been sufficient -- we're 40' with two 13.5 btu A/C's.

Your question is a good one as these coaches certainly aren't built like a stick house.

You can find out much of value about any coach by reading closely the sales lit.. Next time you are on the net or at a show, gather up the sales lititure and look for the "r"values.. This worked for us and was a factor in shopping for a "DSDP"..

I have read great comments on Tiffins staying warm in cold weather.

Newmar does and always has. Generally their DP's are Walls R-11, Roof R-16, Floor R-16 and basement R-4.

R value in a sidewall has no meaning. Once you cut a hole in the wall and insert a window you have lost all R value. If you have dual pane windows you have around an r-4-6 value.

Still better to have high R value overall than low!!
Our Newmars have always been easier to keep warm or cool depending on what was needed. When we ordered our 2002 they had an optional roof insulation package that cost about $100. Well worth the cost too!! We got it, it might be standard now though.

Dual pane windows have about a 1.4 R value. Windshields (single pane of course) are 0.7. So it really doesn't much matter if you have wall insulation if the windshield isn't somehow blocked off or isolated from the rest of the coach.

Check out Newmars. Excellent insulation compared to some others.
