Remco customer service sucks. I have no choice but to have a lube pump. If I could do it without Remco, I would. They used to be good at helping on the phone. Now it seems you get some snotty punk who wants you to drive 300 miles to the next "authorized" dealer. Typical greedy company. I wouldn't be surprised if there is new ownership.

They no longer sell direct to customers - you must buy from selected dealers. They no longer have an exchange program. If you buy a new toad, you also buy a new drive shaft disconnect and dispose of the old one any way you can. They no longer give previous customers any type of incentive. If you are a do-it-yourself individual you may have trouble with the dealer who insists on making the big bucks for installation - or forego the warranty or even the sale.
Remco Towing's website is out of date. For example, it states that Remco still offers an exchange program which isn't correct. If you are considering a Remco Towing product, especially if you are doing your own work, check out your situation. For me the nearest dealer is over 100 miles away and will not sell a product without doing the installation.
I verfied the above statements today by telephone with Remco Towing.
One more time.
We had a REMCO drive shaft disconnect installed by REMCO many years ago. They did not have an "exchange" program then, and I'm certain they do not have one now. Our REMCO worked perfectly for tens of thousand of 4-down towing miles and not towing without a flaw.
If anyone knows different through PERSONAL experience, then please post specifically how bad things are for you. So far, I don't see the problem, OP. I wonder what you thought they were supposed to do for you, that they haven't been doing for their customer base for the last 22+ years.?
At the time I installed my drive shaft disconnect, Remco offered an exchange plan whereby they would either modify your current disconnect or give a trade-in value toward the purchase of another unit. It is written in the paper work that came with the hardware and was noted on their web site. The way I found out that this is no longer the case was when I called Remco to buy a drive shaft disconnect for a new toad vehicle. The Remco phone rep stated, "We no longer offer the exchange program. It was a good deal for owners but we have discontinued it." Please note the quote marks.
An even bigger shock to me was that they no longer sell direct to the do-it-yourselfers. As long as the good Lord gives me the health and presence of mind, I love doing my own work.
The nearest Remco authorized dealer is over one hundred miles away and he sells only what he is allowed to install.
It is understandable that this isn't a big deal to folks who hire their work done. I made the original post to pass on what I have learned to anyone who might benefit from it. Dear friend, it IS my personal experience.

I don't get it......why are you making a complaint thread??
Either go with REMCO under their current policy or don't. What's the big deal??
Their product is as good as it gets, and if you don't like it, don't do business with them.

Skid Row Joe,
Forgive my personal intrusion here. It is likely that you misunderstand my post. There are still a few of us old codgers around who enjoy doing their own mechanical work and prefer to not have other people messing with their vehicles. Please note that I admire the product and have used it for years with excellent results. I did not know of the changing conditions with Remco until I was ready to buy another product. Because there are other satisfied and probably unknowing disconnect users on the forum, I simply wanted to spread the word that, "It ain't like it used to be, guys".
My apology to you for ruffling your feathers. It was kind of obvious when you began with, "One more time..." Your tone indicates that you may well be in a class where you have never needed to do-it-yourself or do without. I don't need to either, now. But, I remember what it was like - and I enjoy being able to still do my own work.
I will be happy to agree to disagree with you. Let's just keep it out of the public forum. Folks go there for information and to help each other. Let's do our part to keep it that way.
I'm a happy customer of Remco since 1987, nothing's going to disparage their product and service from my personal experience with them.
Remco makes the best product of it's kind in the industry. If you have a better system, fine, go with it. But to blame Remco for their company policy that doesn't include free credit for your old driveshafts? No sympathy from my experience with Remco. They make a product for a certain price, either buy it or don't buy it, but to trash their company policy? That's frankly hard to believe.
You are way off base on this one. He does have a legitimate complaint. To state that if he does not like their new practice go elsewhere is not avery nice thing to say. Would you apply that to any and all purchases. Ther is a thing called customer service and obviously that service has changed at Remco. He is bringing this in the open for other customers to see and I think that most here appreciate the information that was offered. You added nothing to this conversation. If I were to apply your logic to this thread I would say " If you dont like the postings dont read them".
I bought a Remco driveshaft disconnect from Remco last year and love it. It's sad to see them stop selling directly. CW only carries their lube pumps, so if I ever need to replace the driveshaft disconnect, I'll be in trouble.
If you have ever read other posts by "Skid Row Joe", you'll find that he loves to engage in arguements. You are giving him the satisfaction of getting yourselves stirred up. Bypass his rude comments by completely blocking him like I do.

I love it. It cost me a small fortune to set it up for towing, but I'm glad I made the decision. I haul my golf cart around in the bed of the truck, which provides me with a fun campground cruise vehicle. It's also convenient...we recently camped in a CG that had no sewer hookup's. The golf cart's tow hitch provided me with a means to tow my tote tank to the dump station, without having to fire up my truck.
