Highcover:
You're the kind of neighbor I wish I had and frankly, the kind I wish I were more like. My personal thought is that you suggest to your neighbor that he rent a trailer and y'all go on a short trip together. I've really found that trailering with friends is a blast. You can help your neighbor by basically going through a PDI type run with him at the trailer park while y'all are there, and showing him how much fun trailering can be. He'll probably end up wanting one himself.

Did someone loan you theirs to see if you were going to like it? More than likely, no! If he is interested in camping, he can find a dealership just like you did, or find a used one in the classified adds. You aren't obligated to loan out high dollar items to "friends".

Years ago we loaned a small travel trailer .. refrigerator fire .. someone thought quickly and turned off the propane .. only had to replace the refrigerator (insurance covered), but we were without our TT until it got fixed. Our friends were so contrite and kept apologizing .. it wasn't their fault, but didn't want anyone to feel guilty over something like that again.
So after that we did not loan out our RVs .. no way!

I can't imagine borrowing someone else's brand new TT. I could never enjoy myself worrying about messing something up.

If you can afford to take the risk of it being in an accident, catching on fire or who knows what while it is in the borrowers hands, And will not bat an eye or raise your voice to him. go ahead. I work too hard to have mine and would be very upset if it came back damaged. Too many possible ways of damaging it or someone's property.

I guess it really depends on how many zeros you have in the bank...or how much you "value" the TT.
If its valued like your house or wife--no way! Otherwise, I guess it depends.
Every summer we reserve a week at Bolsa Chica (Huntington Beach) and without question I let my sister and her family use it for a couple of days/nights. Last year, the water heater pressure relief valve started spewing real bad (kinda unsightly when asphalt camping...like at Bolsa Chica).
After I replaced the valve--my brother-in-law kept apologizing and wanted to stuff a $20 bill in my pocket for the damages.
Now...if he has the skills to drive/tow...he might be able to borrow my TT--but he must ask first (but he won't). On the other had, my other little sister who returned my old truck dirty and empty after borrowing it for 2 months--no frigging way!

My brother-in-law and I were talking about my trailer a few weeks ago, he had just got a new truck, he ask if he could use our trailer. I said yes if you want to take full responsibilty for it. He said well you have good insurance, I said yes and I want it to stay that way. If you want to use it and something happens you pay not my insurance. That was the end of that discussion.

HighCover wrote: My next door neighbor is a solid guy, and we talk and work on stuff together from time to time. Anyway, we were talking about my latest trip out west, and I could tell he would like to do something similar. His wife has the exact same Tahoe as me. Obviosuly, they could hook the Rockwood and Equal-i-zer right up and pull away.
I was thinking about bringing up the idea of letting him take my trailer for a long weekend or something like that. I'm sure he'd want to pay me something for the use. After all, it sits unused for the vast majority of time.
Just wondering, please discuss...
I've a friend who just loaned his older motorhome (he'd just bought a new one and is trying to sell the older one)to one of his wife's relative so they could go to a music festival (dry camp)They constantly called him while they were out because they could get things to work right. When they brought it back to him, a water leak had developed and they inside was a total mess (which they never offered to clean) My suggestion if they look like they might like to camp is to suggest one of the rv rental companies and to take them camping with you on a long weekend.
