Also, the STs give a softer ride.

true but at a big long term reliability cost. The ST has a basket ball shapped sidewall that gives a soft ride BUT that basket ball shape has more sidewall flex which causes the tire to run hot. Also has the sidewall more suspect to sidewall damage. They seem to work better with light weight trailers but on heavier trailers a LT tire that the manufactor has recommended for heavy trailer use is the best for that long term reliability.
There are several good LT tires out here that make a better trailer tire choice than a ST tire.

Most people want to keep up with traffic when towing and will drive between 65 and 70 to do so.
Most ST tires are only rated for 62 MPH max. and could blow from excessive heat when driving at 65-70.

The LT tire is rated at 75 MPH and gives a greater safety margin when driving at higher speeds.
What you should do is switch from the ST tire to the LT tire IF you can find one in your size.
I still keep the speed at 62 or below but the extra safety margin of the LT tire is nice to have.
Both my last two Newmars came from the factory with LT Goodyear tires and we have had no tire issues at all.

G614 STR are made in China? They are only rated for 62 / 65 mph
?? Now you tell me. I just put them on last fall, and they were
expensive.

They are speed rated at 75 MPH and most of them are made in Kansas.
I will post how to tell where they are made from the DOT code on one side of each tire.
Check out the G614 tire here.

If you notice the G614 RST tire has the letters LT in the size (LT235/85R16 LR-G).

To find out where your tires were made go to this site and find the DOT code that's on only one side of your tire.
Immediately after DOT is a four letter group, the first two letters are the plant code. The last four numbers are the date code (2206 would be the 22nd week of 2006). If you have a 3 number date code, your tire was made before 2000 (226 would be 22nd week of 96 or 86 or 76).
