My Good Sam Club Emergency Road Service membership was automatically renewed and my bank account/debit card was charged for the renewal without any specific notice to me that this was to occur. I did not intend to renew as we are seriously considering selling the MH and we have other road service on our two autos.

I'm sure there is something in their literature somewhere that says they will do this but I don't recall seeing such. I'm now trying to get them to credit the $99.95 for the renewal back to my account. So far I'm having no luck. You know how it is. It's always easier for someone to take something away than it is for you to get it back.

So, just a warning to those of you who think that you can just let your Good Sam Club ERS expire. Not the case!!! They'll auto renew it and make you have to try to get the money back.

Wish me luck.

you do know your other vehicles are covered under the ERS too?

that is bad juju for them to do an auto renewal that way, a good case for not using a CC to pay them. Ours will expire if we do not send a check, and we will get the corresponding junk mail and notices that we will be exposed.

Go through your credit card company to get the charges removed.

If you look at your original contract, you will find that you agreed to this method of renewal.
"It was to insure that you never have a lapse in coverage."
Another reason to always read all contracts from cover to cover!!!

I've had auto renewal of things (like Reader's Digest subscription) but they always have sent advance notice. I wonder if notice was sent but just trashed along with all the other GS "spam".

I noticed the last time I renewed my Good Sam membership there was a checked box for automatic renewal, I unchecked it.

It's a new thing, they no longer have to send you a notice.
Again, read your contract. It states that also!!!
They hope you don't pay attention. Many people just pay their credit card bills and never read them!
There was a guy a few years back that sent out a batch of bills to doctors Lawyers, and other professional types, via their offices, for repair work supposedly done on their homes. Their secretary's would just pay them automatically. He had a good income without doing any work.
It seems to me that this falls in the same category!

Mine just auto renewed within the last 2 weeks, but I did receive notice several weeks ago; a postcard indicating that it would be renewed in 30 days unless I contacted them with alternate plans. Not sure whether I checked any boxes regarding renewal, most likely I would have requested notice. At any rate, I believe you can cancel at any time and, under the circumstances, you would probably get your money back if you asked. Good luck!

Just another reason to never give anyone your checking account information or use a debit card. Folks, only credit cards give you the needed protections against unauthorized charges. They are the only things covered by the fair credit act.
