We like the auto renewal because we're away from home so often and do not have mail sent in the summer when ours renews.

When I signed up for coverage with them I told them the previous owner of our RV had coverage through them as well until 2010. the representative said that I should have the previous owner call because they would refund her money for the remainder of the term. Maybe you could just tell them you no longer have the RV since you plan on selling it anyways.
We also received a notice in the mail about our renewal coming up and email, too.
I also keep a list of automatic renewals with my bills.
I disagree with the person who wrote that their whole business is directed toward people who they can slide things past.

I work in the renewal department for Emergency Road Service (ERS). As has been noted, Good Sam ERS sends a reminder post card before we charge the next year of membership as a courtesy. We have many thousands of members who are enrolled in Direct Payment so that there is never a lapse in their service. We want to avoid the situation where we have had some members call for service only to find that their membership had expired and they had missed our renewal notices. While we will arrange service on their behalf, it is then at the member's expense at that point. Sometimes that has been in the range of hundreds of dollars depending on the type of disablement. Enrollment in Direct Payment is not intended as a way to generate additional renewals as ERS has a 96% satisfaction rating and a very high member retention rate. We are not in the business of trying to deceive anyone. Direct Payment is truly a service to our members as a lapse in service can lead to a bad experience. Prepaid Emergency Roadside Service, especially one that is formulated to serve RV owners, is cheap insurance that you never want to have run out. Just thought you'd like to know the facts.

I did not have auto renewal and my coverage lapsed. A month later when I called in with a problem, Good Sam allowed me to renew right over the phone and then dispatched a tow truck. Thanks GS!
I'm not sure that they are evil, but their Direct Mail Ad service sure is. Tons of junk mail, for all their programs, and even though they KNOW I can't buy full coverage insurance for my 14 year old RV (they have a 10 year cut off), I still get junk mail about it! Dumb!
