Along with Big bend, stop and see the Marfa lights. They have a center there and you can dry camp there.

Where in the Tampa area are you staying? I can probably give you a couple of tips (aside from Disney, about 90 minutes away, and Busch Gardens in Tampa. The Lowery Park Zoo is fantastic, too. Fort Desoto Beach is the best and has a decent campground.

Houston all through La. is one long suspension test. Your shock absorbers will hate you. I don't know if I-20 is any better.

How much time do you have?

Did you want things/places to stop at and see enroute or in Tampa Bay?

Unless they have finished the last 50 or so miles of I-10 in LA, find another way through the state or make sure your RV insurance is up to date. Nasty roads from TX border to I-10/I-12 intersection, in 5 to 10 mile sections, for 50+ miles.

Nothing wrong with the last 50 miles of I-10 in La. There is construction on I-10 east (both ways)of Lake Charles from exit 32 to exit 44. East bound is now diverted to the new section. Headed west, I would take exit 44, south on 167 to hwy 90 and then the 210 loop around Lake Charles. The new west bound I-10 should be open within 30-60 days.

There is also bridge construction in Sulphur but there is a seamless movement to the feeder road for about a 1/ mile. There is a nasty dip about 1 mile east of the 10 loop.

Construction between Orange and Beaumont but some of the new section is now in service.

I travel that section every 4-5 weeks.

I 10 is great until you get into Louisianna, I just came across there is March and there are some parts of I 10 that should be condemned, even the 4 wheelers were slowing down. I finally got off and went north on some really nice two lane roads until I got over above Pensacola then dropped back down to I 10.

We have 2 and a half weeks and only have a week end committed to Tampa. As of now we are staying in a KOA neer Treasure Island where the re-union is occurring. Thanks for the great info so far.

David, You might have to change your signature after you drive on I-10 through LA. We went from southeast GA through to Texas on I-10 earlier this spring. We came back on I-20, I don't think the MH could take the pounding again. Seriously consider another route around LA.. Otherwise your passengers will have to suffer the worst ride of their lives and you will be worn out dodging the tempoary barriers in the construction areas. Hopefully the projects will go fast and the road can be open and smooth.
