Due to the high rise in propane costs, I purchased and installed a 110v hot water heater rod. So now we have a gas and propane water heater. We are planning several trips to the lake this summer that have full hook-ups, so no extra cost to heat the water because we are plugged into power. So far it has worked very well.

Ours has one, only we have never used it.
Have to check that option out, only had hookups 3 or 4 times, but We will have to use it next time to see if it works.

I have had one for 4 years now and I think it is great, it sure cut down my propane cost. Now one tank will last me more than just one season, and I make sure that I fill up my propane tank when I an in the United States. In Canada, especially in Atlantic Canada, if you want to get filled up with propane at a service station, and most campgrounds, if they deliver that propane by volume and not weight, you will be charges as motor fuel and there is a much larger tax that goes with it. It doesn't matter that the one selling the propane can see that you have a gasoline engine, or a diesel engine, in your motor home , if they deliver it by volume( Liters), and your tank can't be removed from your rig and put on a scale and weighted, you will pay through the nose for it. The last time I filled up my propane tank, I was charged over $87.00 for it, at an Irving Service Station in Nova Scotia Canada. What really made me mad was the tax comission in Nova Scotia told me "they don't have to charge for it, but we know they do, just fill out a bunch of forms and sent in reciepts and we will give you the tax back." Like I said that was 4 years ago, I an still waiting.

Sorry a bit of topic, I had to vent , but an electric hot water heater is a much better investment than propane purchases in Canada.

I see there are basically 3 options to do this:

1. RV Hot Water Hybrid Heat By Camco
2. Universal RV Water Heater Hott Rod Kit
3. RV Water Heater Lightning Rod

They all look about the same price. Any recommendations? Do they all work the same way? I am leaning toward the one from Camco. Sounds like a complete kit, but am unsure how it works in comparison to the rods.
