I just posted this on another thread but the subject justifies the reposting:
I just replaced three of the incandescent lights in my RV with 12V THIN-LITE model 112 fluorescent fixtures (1" thick). The fixtures were an easy replacement that cost $35 each and took about 0.5 hours or less each to install. They use the same current as the incandescents (~1.4 Amps each) and output ~5X the light. Compared to the fluorescent fixtures LED replacement lights are not, at this point in time, cost effective based on the amount of light output.

I bought some from Randy at Best Converter. There is light and pattern difference between LED's but if you boondock they are the way to go.

Then as an Engineer and a Scout, I'm sure you can appreciate why I don't drive after dark any more. Imagine rolling at 75 MPH, and being suddenly blinded such that you can't see the road OR where to pull over. It doesn't get much better at 60MPH or 55 MPH, for that matter. So basically, your geekfest turns me into Stevie Wonder behind the wheel. Which IS pretty funny - well, except to Stevie and possibly whoever is behind Stevie...

Very interesting point. Do you happen to know the color temperature of those CFL lights you put in? I am asking b/c anything less than say 3500K will have that "green" hue to it and for some folks, (My wife included) are very sensitive to that type of light.

They were the "cool white" color (4100K?)

I guess I am confused here.........

geekfest?

I want to be seen, and being seen is a good thing if you are driving a 8~10 ton vehicle.

So my lights are causing a problem? If they are, I see no need to apologize for wanting to be safe.

LED replacement lights was a topic sometime ago on the RV.NET Blog. You can view it http://blog.rv.net/2008/03/09/whats-new-in-rv-illumination/

I used one of the LED arrays (on a PC board) from SuperBrightLEDS.com in my outside light. VERY bright. The amber lens takes care of the bluish light.

I have one of their older, not as bright arrays in the light of my stove hood. Makes a good night light.

superbightleds.com actually has some light arrays for RV/boat use that have a more natural, white light without the bluish cast now. Gonna get some one of these day to try out on the inside.

I just received 3 of the 1156-PCB-WHP9 White LED Lamps in 3100k from Super Bright Legs and they are very impressive and they do not have that blue tint. I am very happy with them.

They are expensive but they only use 190ma and they have a very wide voltage tolerance 8 - 30vdc
