I hope they catch the shooter... BEFORE he gets lucky and kills someone.

May the shooter enjoy the reward he so richly deserves

20 years free room and board at the state's retirement home for idiots who shoot at people who are minding their own business.

NOTE to OP.. Though finding the slugs might have been a whole lot easier than you think (I could likely do it if it's a heavenly wooded area using only the carpenter's tools I carry) there WILL be other evidence at the scene.. Alas, all destroyed now.

I've been told that you don't want to get off the beaten path in the Trinity Mountains because there's a lot of "illegal activity" there. Is that true, an exaggeration or a non-issue?
If it has any credence, are there known specific places to avoid or is it best to steer clear of the whole mountain range (I'm not that familiar with California's geography)?

An exaggeration and a non-issue. But just like anywhere you go, be aware of your surroundings.

And here come the California bashers...

LOL CraigP. It could have happened anywhere folks it has nothing to do with California. I am glad that HUTCH45 and his dog are ok. I hope he called the PD. Come to the beach to get out of that smoke!

What ever state you live in, just look at your secondary road signs, if they have bullet holes in them, it could also be your RV. And ill bet alcohol was involved.
Stuff like this doesnt only happen in Calif, look at the news.

Folks, the chance of the cops being able to do anything to catch these idiots is slim and none. I will not bother trying to guess why this happened but I will say that I am glad you are okay. The whole United States is getting to be a unsafe place to live and raise a family. I grew up in S. CA. and moved away as soon as I could. I refuse to live in a state that doesn't allow me tom protect myself. N. CA. use to be known for being a bit calmer. Again I am glad you are okay and returning to this area would be foolish on your part, armed or unarmed.
