Does anyone use a second generator instead of the one your coach came with? A buddy of mine said to buy a cheap generator and run it instead of your coaches in order to keep the hours down on the original. Seems like a lot of work to me; what do you think?

i have two just in case, one at home for emergancy but i use the rvs generator i dont worry about it, you need to run it any ways from time to time sitting to long with out use is not good for them.

The genset in your rig will very likely last longer than your rig will. It is probably more fuel efficient and besides, it needs to run in order to run well. Enjoy it and maintain t.
I'll bet your buddy doesn't have a built in unit!

I use a Yamaha 300iseb unit to run my RV. The built in generator is an Onan 7000 and really sucks down the gas. The only time I use the built in Onan is when I need to run both A/C's at one time. The rest of the time I use the Yamaha and save on gas big time. Plus the Yamaha is way quieter than the Onan and I have no issues with the exhaust creeping back into the RV since the portable generator is back by the garage and I can point the exhaust side away.

I wondered about this too. In particular I would like a small (almost) silent one that could be run at night (for my wife's CPAP) if my batteries should poop out. The built in is WAY too loud. Anyone have a REALLY quiet genset?
I can only be in just so many places at one time.

The actual Yamaha model is EF3000iSEB. It's a 3KW generator with a 500 watt boost which helps on Air Conditioner start-up. I have had mine for years and love it.

I've thought about getting a small, more fuel efficient generator to charge up the batteries and allow smaller appliances like the TV to run, not the A/C. I want something small and light enough to carry around, I don't need a replacement for my Onan 5500 - this has me looking at the Honda EU2000i or the Yamaha EF2400iS, I previous owned a Yamaha EF3000iSEB and felt it was a great generator, but I don't need or want that much weight.
Forced Family Fun... They'll thank you later for it!

I am considering the Yamaha or Honda 1000 silent for running stuff at night without the noise, but will run the big genny during the day to keep it rotating whenneeeded
