I'll watch this thread, because I can't find one. The manufacturers seem to be building all phones for the gadget freaks, even though the percentage of people that use their phones for anything other than calling keeps dropping. The more features, the fewer people use.

I'm beginning to thing such a phone doesn't exist.
If it doesn't play games, have ringtones, play music, play movies, text or have a camera, nobody wants it. Actually being able to talk on it and have a decent quality of reception is secondary. A basic phone should also be an inexpensive phone, but instead, the makers cram all the features into it and just use cheaper, less reliable parts.
One option I've used is ebay. Look for a new, never used or activated basic phone like a Star-Tac digital that is for the network of your choice. They are out there although the prices can get high sometimes. Shows how the makers are missing the boat when people are paying big money for a phone that's over 5 years old just to avoid the extra garbage.

We use Tracfone, it runs us about 100.00 a year which includes 1 year of service and XXX minutes of time. We have never run out of minutes and when we renews annually the minutes carry over. Seems to work for us especially when we are traveling.

I presume you will be using it in the US. When we go to to the states for the winter we use our "NET10" phone and last winter we covered most of the states from east to west as well as down in the southern states and had excellent reception in almost all areas. And yes can get a "plain jane" phone from them. We picked ours up at Walmart for $20 and that included airtime and when we go back down this fall we will just reactivate. Here is there web page:

Something that REALLY bites is the ATT/Cingular pay as you go phone coverage is much less comprehensive than the coverage for a phone with a monthly minutes plan. I considered changing one of my pay as you go phones back to a monthly plan before my last trip out west, but then I'd be stuck paying $30-$40 a month for two years.
Pay as you go reception coverage was so poor, I may as well left the phone at home.
grrr. Isn't paying $.25 a minute enough?

I use the Trackfone as mentioned above. The 49.00 dollar phone now on sale for 39.00 offers free double minutes for the life of the phone. I purchased the 400 Mins. for 80 bucks and there good for one year. so it works out to 1,000 min. for one year. There best deal for that phone is at Walmarts. 450 mins. for $79.98 with a 3 month end date. So you get 900 Mins for $80.00 bucks. There any where minutes. US/Canada. JM2Cents Bill
Now all I have to do is figure out a way to keep my wife from stealing my phone and using up my minutes.

I researched that Jitterbug. If you go by there cheapest plan, it's $10.00 a month, .35 A min. = $120.00 a year without any calls. You can take it from there. I know there phone is great for easy of use and no frills. But as for me, I perferr the the Trackfhone. I know as far as getting bars goes, it seems to be riding verison, att and t-mobil, so if any of those have a signal, I know my track is working. Bill
