I have the Coupe with Verizon. It has a large keypad, and the numbers that show on the phone are large and easy to read. It has the capability to take pics, but I do not use that option and I don't pay for the IM or pics features with my plan.
My husband has all the gadgets on his phone, it is not the Coupe. Verizon coverage is great, they have all different plans with different costs.
You might want to see if they have a plan that is good for you.
Another feature I enjoy with the Coupe, it has ICE keys. (incase of emergency) that you can push to contact your choice person and do not have to go to the contact list.
Use a cell phone only when needed, keeping calls short, you can't beat a trac fone. $90+ a year incl 300 minutes...that carry over. Had one for 6 yrs, and never ran out of minutes yet.

With my poor hearing (wearing hearing aids) I need a phone not for the gadgets, but one with very crisp sound. My local reseller was nice enough to let me try 3 different phones in the store to test them. You may not get the good sound with the cheap phones.
After having a full featured phone, I'm finding I'm using more of the advanced features than I thought I would. Perhaps you will too.
TracFone still sells a Motorola C139, I think. But you must use their service, which I find adequate for "just a phone" for occasional use. But if you talk 6000 minutes a month, TracFone is pretty expensive. The only real drawback I've found with the C139 is a screen that needs to be lit to read, combined with a backlighting that goes off very quickly. This gives it great battery life.
The C139 series is quite popular globally as a basic "candybar" GSM phone, selling for the equivalent of $30 to $50 in most open markets. TracFone actually sells the instrument so cheaply, they've had problems with foreign nationals going into multiple TracFone outlets, buying up bags full of this model, to take home and sell at a higher price.
About a year ago, this activity, buying disposable phones in bulk, raised a terrorist alert. Turned out not to be terrorists, just young Asian entrepreneurs.
I've used tracfone for years and have been very happy with them.
If you get their "double minutes for the life of the phone" when it goes on sale it brings the per minute charge down so it's more reasonable.
I have a nokia 1100 which is a wonderful phone but seems to be
very difficult to find. Easy to hear, intuitive menu layout. Easy to use. If you find one on ebay, buy it.
My only problem has been that the 1100 does not work in Hot Springs
SD and I had to work there for 9 months so bought another tracfone
I'll have to check the number (I believe it ended in 26i) and let you know what it is because it s awful. I've had the company replace it twice and I'd replace it again but what's the point? It's impossible to hear on this phone unless you put it on speaker phone. The menu layout is stupid. I've used the phone for 9 months and still can't find stuff on it.

just got a new Lg phone at a Verizon store in Reno Nevada. Basic phone with speakerphone/as long as it rings and I can call out-then its good for me. No extra fancy gadgets. The phone was 9.99US. I up'd my plan to 20.00 per month, gives me 50 anytime minutes a month. Only use it for emergencies when in the US. Also, no roaming on this plan when in the US. My beautiful Lg phone(4 yrs old) needed a new battery, no longer made by Lg and an aftermarket one-if I could find it was 35.00-so for 9.99 I got a brand new phone, and Verizon coverage is super. Now thinking about the air card for the internet for this upcoming winter..then, I can kiss the phone company goodbye, even tho they have been good to me..it may just make sense..Dona

Check out Virgin Mobile online. They'll usually just give you a plainer phone and no contract. You choose your pay plan and can change it around whenever (various prepay plans or just pay-as-you-go). I've gotten good service just about everywhere with them, and the customer service has been outstanding during the several years I've had it.
