Let me say that we fulltime in a Class A and wouldn't consider any other RV for our needs. Having said that:
In your case, I believe a better choice would be a Fifth Wheel. Its better suited for longer stays and roomier (depending on slides etc) than a MH. Just consider it.

the wife and i are 8 yrs away from me retiring from the CF navy . we presently have a 31 ft class A thats in good shape. with that we have started looking at trucks 5TH wheels toy haulers and a small chunk of land that we can put a septic field / power and sat/ cable to for a winter spot here in BC . planning now has already started to save us money by being able to decide on a 5th wheel vice a class A. all in we are looking at 150k ish vice 200k without the land. with the class A we would be stuck without a real storage space on the move. room for 2 MC 's tools spare bedroom etc .I will be workamping while retired as i have a large amount of handskills to offer. woodworking welding plumbing HVAC and others. without the ability to bring a small amount of tools id have to hope where ever i go has them . not always the best way ...
the class A may be shiny-er but in my opinion isnt what we want but we have the knowledge of if not hindsight living knowledge...

Been there, doing that have a few T shirts .

I think it's a very doable idea but as others have suggested I would suggest considering a 5vr. We are living in ours even though we still have a small 7 acre farm which is still mortgaged. In our situation our daughter and her family have moved into the house and are basically renting it from us. At some point in time they will probably buy it outright. Otherwise we will sell it and hope the housing market has gotten better. At the present time I am still employed fulltime and we're set up in one of two fulltime sites I built on our property. We have found that the RV life even in our situation enjoyable and fully intend to continue it after I retire. If you cannot sell due to the current economic situation I would highly suggest looking into renting out your house and moving into an RV of your choice so you can see if the RV lifestyle is right for you. If you've followed this forum you'll know that there are many who have tried and decided that it was not for them.

I have full timed in a Class C (22 foot) for a year and a half. But it is only me. (The DW still lives in our sticks and bricks and won't retire yet). There are trade offs, but I like the compact nature of it. If you aren't spending all your time inside. The key is if and how much you travel. If you are moving every week to ten days, a motor home would seem to be the thing. If the time between moves is longer than that, I would look at a 5th wheel or bumper pull. The preference being for a 5th wheel unless you have "toys" and stuff you want to keep in the back of a tow vehicle.

As to all the "what do you do if you get sick" type of questions, make sure you ask the same questions about a sticks and bricks living scenario. How tough is it to move from an apartment to another one vs how tough is it to find someone to help move an RV? I personally think it would be great to have an RV for a home if one of us got sick and hospitalized, the other could be in a nearby park with the RV rather than driving a bunch.

Not dumb and what you'll be most comfortable in is something only you can decide. I've fulltimed over the years in everything from a stepvan (a retired bread truck) that I converted to our current bus with a number of variations in between. The main issue is to find something that the DW will like, be able to take care of (the smaller area makes a big difference in that regard) and since you also want to travel some in it, something you'll be comfortable driving, parking and setting up.

I'm a MH person, so a 5er or TT is not of any interest to me, but that is one of those personal choice things. There are pro's and con's to both and they've all been hashed over many times in other threads here. Do some research, go to the dealers and look at what's available and then go for it and we'll see you out here one of these days.

If you plan to stay in one place for the next 8 years a 5th Wheel would probably be cheaper and serve you needs well.

I lived in a 30' Class A for 17 years before buying my present fiver last year. My unit had no slides but I made do and saved a TON of money besides (best decision I've made!). In your case, I would recommend a unit with slide-outs since you and your significant other will find it a little tight. Best wishes.....
