How very sad. I try to keep an eye out for tow setups that look iffy to me and stay away when I can. It's just a gut feeling of mine. Just yesterday a gal did the same thing with a truck/trailer setup on I-5 here in Eugene and crossed the median but they escaped death. Perhaps I'm a lone voice but I think there should be some type of mandatory licensing/education for anyone to tow and add it as a license endorsement.

Truly a tragedy. That said, why do these things get reported here on the Forum with such regularity? I think it is macabre that we need to get these things here so quickly.
What can be said about something like this? What do we learn?
Just a thought that has been moving around in my head for some time.

Wow, what a sad story. I will be passing through there in 2 weeks. I feel so bad for the 2 little girls. They are so close in age to my 9 yr old. I wonder if we can do anything to help them?

Well it certainly is a tragedy and only proves that one never knows when a tragedy like this will strike...
We will never know of course exactly what happened and can only guess at several aspects of the crash... The Father was an experienced bus driver but driving a bus is not like driving a truck and trailer... If in fact the TT in question was 35 feet long regardless of whether it was a TT or a 5er with the hitching mechanism to adapt it to a standard tow configuration, 35' is way to long for any Durango under any conditions...
It is indeed a tragedy that this ever happened, but I am in agreement with the other poster that said with him being a professional driver, he should have known better than to try and tow a 35' TT with a Durango - - - IF of course all these reports are factual...

IMHO it reminds us that no matter how good we are at hooking up, towing, backing, setting up, whatever, we should never get complacent about what we as RV's are doing when our stab jacks and landing gear are up and the cooler is closed.

I've wondered about the fascination of some to post about accidents myself. When I questioned it in a previous post a few months back I was criticized. We don't post about car accidents or pick up accidents or even tractor trailer accidents. Why does everyone feel the need to do so just because a RV was involved? Nothing was or ever is learned or gained in anyway from these reports. Most of the time no one knows what happened or why yet they still feel the need to post that they saw the aftermath of it or had to stop for traffic for it. All this thread did was to show us all how a man possibly killed 2/3 of his family because he was towing too big of a trailer for his vehicle.

Precisely the reason for posting it. Way to many people here do not put the safety of their family and others as the first priority! Not a day goes by where you can't read about some nut here trying to do too much trailer with too little TV and getting plenty of people to agree with him.
