It would be a lot eaiser on you to rent a apartment. We leave Northern Ohio in Oct for Flordia..That shoud tell you something. Rentials in the Lima, Ohio area will be a lot less expensive that where you are now.

There is a campground just north of Toledo, that is set up for winter. We have stayed there a few times in the winter. It is in Monroe Michigan. About a 20 minute ride. As long as you skirt the trailer, and heat tape the water hose, you will be fine. I set up once there at -5. Had no problems. They have the 100# propane botlles, and will bring them too you. Nice Campground. The best underpinning is the blue foam from lowes or Home depot. Using 2 X 2 or 2 X 4 frame the trailer footprint using the long spike nails to secure in the ground. Then staple the foam to the wood. Use the aluminum HVAC tape to secure the foam to the trailer. Easy to remove and leaves very little residue. For added heat throw a couple of work lights under the trailer for heat. I can keep the area under my trailer to be around 45 degrees, when it was below zero outside.

I predict you will have to give up the idea once you have been in Ohio, and start trying to stay comfortable in ANY RV, and cold weather! winter of 06/07 we were doing some of the winter in the Rio Grande Valley we used 6 30# lp tanks and temps were a lot in the 40's BUT it was BETTER than the winter UP here. to do all needed to do the winter UP here will cause the thing in 2 yrs not worth towing back to Texas and use it more. Why? Interior Moisture that you must not be aware of YET!

We never tried to live in our 5er during the winter, but we do camp all year. Our 5er has heated tanks but we normally use two electric heaters along with the furnace. I winterize the unit in November so we use bottled water to drink and gallon jugs for flushing. Most places lock up there shower houses during the winter so we have to drive to the SPCG to shower.

I camp all year too in North/central Ohio. My fresh water and the lines are inside where it is heated while my gray and black are totally exposed. I dump in a couple gallons of RV antifreeze into them before using. I use it just like summer, running water and all. Dump the Gray & Black when done for the weekend. Seems a place like Evergreen RV resort which is open all year and has the frost free hydrants would be a good place to try it out. Only use the hydrant to fill the fresh tank. Straw bales around the bottom wouldn't be much different then a mobile home?

All the nay sayers are really tempting me to try it this winter. You want to join me Greg?

I'll betcha the winters in Ohio aren't any worse that those in NE Wyoming, and we have LOTS of people "full-timing" in 5ers here. My wife has a friend who's lived in one for years with her hubby. They just bought another new one last year.

An old friend of mine is a dealer here for Forest River and Newmar. He sells lots of Cedar Creeks, but he told me he'd much rather sell a Newmar, even for the same profit, because the Cedar Creeks keep him busy in the winter when they freeze up. Says he's never had to thaw out a Newmar. He was a mobile home dealer years ago, so I'm sure he knows about winterizing. Just something to keep in mind if you decide to buy a 5er. You might be happier in a higher-end "fulltime" unit, even if it means getting one a few years old.

Its crazy for snow here in Ohio. You would have to find a campsite that is open year round, which is almost impossible, you wouldnt have a water supply, unless you haul it in. So think twice about you living in a trailer. Best to buy mobile home in a park if you want something cheap.
