We got a Roto-Flex hitch on our new camper as a standard item. How can you tell if it is operating properly? There still seems to be a lot of chucking while towing the camper. Our only comparison is our previous camper, which was considerably smaller and did not have a Roto-Flex. While driving the hitch doesn't seem to flex or move any differently than the hitch. We are just trying to determine if there is an issue that we need to tell the dealer about. Should we be seeing any movement from the Roto-Flex while we towing?
These are fairly new and there doesn't appear to be too many out there. When you look at the design, the only fore-aft damping you might get is if your fifth wheel is going up and down and pivoting on the plate (one of the criticisms of the Trail-Air pin box as well).
The only two pin boxes that I know of that really address fore-aft movement are the Demco Glide-Ride and the Morrhyde pin box. I have no experience with the Demco but I can tell you that the Morrhyde works exactly as advertised.
I guess you decision might be to live with it or upgrade. Before you do anything, try adding more weight to the front of the fiver - you can get chucking if you are too light as well.
