Hello out there...
We are in the market for a Class C and it's down to the wire for us.
Recently found one we like however it is on a Chevy 6.0 V8 chassis and although I am a fan of Chevy I am interested to find out any feedback from people. I figure it will be better than the Ford regarding gas mileage however is it lacking in power for towing?
Also... What do you think? - Is it worth going with a more expensive unit ie: Winnebago verses say... Chateau.
Thanks

There both good chassis, pick the one you like the best. Ford is generally the less expensive on the chassis. It's the floor plan and what fits your needs. Size of the bath room, sleeping space, storage space. Good Luck and happy choosing. Bill

FYI, I have seen both along the road, and both in the RV parks, flip a coin. LOL..

Good low end torque with the Ford V 10 I had previously in my 31 ft. class C. I was very happy with it towing.

I don't know about Chevy but to get any real work done on a Ford, even have it serviced, you have to take it to a Ford Truck Dealer. I'm a Ford fan Chevy may be the same. Of course there independent shops but try to find one if your on the road with a problem. Even truck dealers are harder to find.

CHEVY vortec engine and GM transmissions are much better than Ford! Even the resale will be higher as Fords don't hold value, due to all the problems they have.

If you ever want to find out how many opinions there are in the RV world, this is a good question to ask!

Personally, I'd rather eat worms than drive a Chevy!

Can't wait til the flames start...

Of course I'm baiting the Chevy drivers!

You'll get a lot of interesting responses to your question! We have a FW Chateau with the Chevy 6.0L. I've also driven a 31' Coachmen with the Ford V10. Our Chevy is rated at 12,300 lb versus the 14,050 Coachmen so they both accelerated about the same.

My experience is that the Chevy is quieter as it doesn't rev as high as the V10. Some claim that the V10 is smoother and it may be, but not enough to be noticeable...the 6.0L is a great engine. The engine and tranny sit farther forward in the Chevy so that may contribute to the lower cab noise. I've been towing a car four-down with ours and acceleration has been just fine. I have a heavy foot and don't have a problem keeping up with traffic even with the car on the back.

If you're looking at a bigger unit with the 14,050lb GVWR, the Ford's extra power is going to pay off, especially if you are going to tow something large. However, don't let the slightly lower ratings for the 6.0L concern you. It is more than adequate if you operate within the chassis's limits.

One other thing...don't get caught up in the numbers battle unless you need to tow something big. The differences in the cab between the Ford and Chevy are considerable so check them both out and pick the one that is best for you. You aren't going to notice a few extra foot-lb of torque at the end of the day, but a tired butt sticks with you. My personal preference is the Chevy.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts...
I had a feeling this would be a touchy subject!
I am looking at a 2008 Four Winds 29R - anyone had leaking issues w/ the front window? I agree the Chevy offers more cab space - we wanted to tow a jeep and a dirt bike - pushing the limits possibly?

Ford all the way!!!! Everyday!!

There is a reason why Ambulances are RARELY seen with a Chevrolet chassis. You want to get to the hospital when you are hurting right?

Ford with a V10...the only way to go.

Like old travel decals? me too!

I am starting to pull away from wanting a diesel. So I'll be watching this thread closely. I drive a Chevy Malibu, My husband is a landscaper and he has a dump truck with a Ford 450 chassis. We also have '53 ford 150 pick-up, My grandfather, who was the original owner, gave it to us an we restored it 90%. I have these great picture of my grandfather building a camper on the back of the old truck. I'll put the pics on the blog one day.
We will probably go with the Ford.
