I would consider two things.

1: Dump NOrton

2: Send them an E-mail "Since you insist I use IE to access your online help I'm dumping you"

At the urging of my technologically savvy GS, I switched from IE7 to Firefox3 and really like it. I've been using Norton IS for years but it's giving me fits right now. All of a sudden the "auto protect" feature has a problem that results in the inability to download e-mail.

When I go out to the Norton website, it tells me I have to use IE to get to their online help desk. Of course, when I try to use IE I get the same error messages (e.g. IE has encountered a problem and needs to close) that caused me to finally take my GS advice and switch to Firefox.

I'd really like to ditch Norton but would like suggestions as to other programs that work well with Firefox. I don't care if the programs are free or if I have to pay for them.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

One thing you may not be aware of is that Firefox has an add-on that enables you to load selected pages in Internet explorer called IE view.
All you have to do it to right click and then click in the appropriate place to open the page with IE. I hope that helps.

God Bless!

My Antivirus of choice is Kaspersky. It works fine with Firefox. It is a a little pricey if you order from their website, but you can get it reasonably at Ebay.

About 3 months ago PC World Magazine rated Kaspersky as the number one antivirus program in the world.

And next time they will rate some other program as the best depending on which way the wind is blowing. That's the reason I let my subscription lapse.

I use IE 8 beta, Vista SP1 , Windows Onecare Live and have zero problems. BTW I am posting this on my HP laptop using broadband wireless in my timeshare villa at Hilton Grand Vacations Club at SeaWorld International Center in Orlando Florida. Firefox 3 still does not work correctly on many websites.

Not sure how this is related...

Interesting way to state that if web sites use MS proprietary functions, they may not work properly with all browsers. When I encounter a web site that does not work with Firefox, it has to be something that I really need to motivate me to click on IE tab to open it in Firefox rather than just move on.

AVG 8 has a bug, well I call it a bug, they call it a feature, that consumes extra bandwith. It's called LinkScanner and it should be banned from the internet.

In a nutshell, if you do a search on Google and the search returns ten web pages, Linkscanner will visit, download and scan all ten pages even if you didn't click on any of them. Imagine if you are charged by the megabyte for your connection, or god forbid, you are on dial-up. Never mind the poor shmuck that is hosting the website that gets billed for this usage, meanwhile the person didn't even see his site.

AVG thumbed its nose at the internet, saying "if you want to make omelettes, you have to break some eggs." Other antivirus programs offer the same protection without this abusing behavior. This shows they are on the same path as Norton.

If you must use AVG, please disable Linkscanner.

BTW, anyone see a conflict of interest in Microsoft putting out an insecure OS then charging people to secure it (OneCare)?
