I have the 4.30 gears and I am pulling a 40' Travel Supreme , 19,000 lbs , and driving very easy I get 8 mpg. That is at 55mph, it will get 14 - 15 on the hiway at 58 - 60 mph and around 10 in town. This is really being easy on it to get this. If I drive 65 - 67 not towing I get 11 - 12 mpg.
My plans are to trade it for a 09 Dodge 4500 in the very near future. I had a 05 F350 and got 10 mpg towing and 18 on the Hiway at 70 mph, I am really disappointed in the 08 6.4 Powerstroke.

Don't expect the Dodge with the 6.7 to be any better.
Now's the time to buy a F-450, you could probably talk them down more but some of the offers people are getting quoted on are not to shabby and I for one will not talk anyone of you out of buying one. I love my F-450 and couldn't be any happier with it. Here's a little eye candy to get you to sign on the dotted line .
I too took delivery of a 2008 Job 2 F450 w/4.88 in October last year and absolutely love it! It tows our 2007 Teton with ease whether climbing mountain roads or freeway driving. I do not exceed 60MPH on Freeways (towing or not) and on a relatively flat road get 9-10MPG with the Teton behind it. Overall average on all driving has been 8MPG towing, and 11-12 MPG not towing in city driving. The F450 Integrated Brake System is also providing the very best trailer braking I've ever experienced. Ford really has made a great looking and performing truck with the F450 in my opinion.

FWIW, I just picked up a new 2008 F-550 Crew Cab Regency conversion with a hauler bed, two tone leather interior and all the other goodies includeing a rear view camera set up. MSRP was $71,900 and I paid 41,900 for the truck complete. Dealer had been sitting on the truck for over a year and was glad to see it leave his inventory even though he took a loss. Gotta love Ebay for those bargain basement deals.

I suspected with Ford's introduction of a factory complete F-450 pickup, the aftermarket upfitting of cab chassis 450/550 would take a hit. Local dealer has had a white F-550 Chariot rv hauler sitting for a long time, window sticker over $78k. Sounds like you got yourself a hell of a deal. What type rear suspension did you truck come with, Kelderman?

Believe it or not, the dealer deleated the air suspension on the conversion. Yet the OEM suspension rides better than on my F-450, matter fact it feels alot like the ride of my 06 F-250 V-10.
I'm am sure the F-450 may have cut into the aftermarket F-450/550 conversions. However I like the look of the hauler style beds, but I do like the fact that you can throw items in the back of a OEM style bed and not have to tie everything down.
