My wife and I are retired and have been fulltime RVing for about six years. We love the RV life but don't move around as much as we used to. The question I have is we plan on buying about an acre of land in the Anniston Alabama area to park the RV on for extended periods of time. Does anyone know of the rules in that area that would prevent us to live in an RV on our land which would require of course getting electricity, water, and sewer service installed. The reason for an acre is I plan on having a small work shop to do woodwork and you can't make any noise in the close confines of an RV park. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Rather than getting advice here from someone who probably doesn't know, I'd recommend you contact the county clerk of that county to ascertain what the regulations/rules/laws really are. That way you will know you are safe.

Great advice. You are right. That's the best way.

Make the sales contract contingent on being able to obtain permits for setting up the RV and its utilities. That way you're safe irregardless of what the county clerk may or may not tell you.

"Make the sales contract contingent on being able to obtain permits for setting up the RV and its utilities. That way you're safe irregardless of what the county clerk may or may not tell you. "
And that may be the best advice.
We have bought many spots and sold many across the u.s. and use this as a no 1 priority. Some may be surprised at the restrictions in some god forbidden spots we have seen and checked out.

Many cities and counties across the country are putting their ordinances online. Go to Municode and click on the "Online Library" tab. You can search by state for available listings.
I use it for a quick reference on sign ordinances. But planning and zoning info is listed as well.

It's amazing how restrictive this country is getting. I know in Georgia that many counties I'm familiar with have rules on the minimum square footage you must have to put a home on your property. They've pretty well done away with the single wide mobile home and no RV's at all. I believe it is so they can get more property tax. It is sad we are slowly giving up our property rights. I know the usual statements they make is it is protecting other's property values. Well not everyone can afford, need,or want a large home. We love our RV and meet some of the best people whom also love theirs. Enough of my ranting. Happy trails to you all.
