Good luck, I spent several days & finally called the bureau of land mgmt. 303-239-3600 They were very reasonably priced on the maps.

There is not much in Durango, but go north on 550 to Silverton and there are trails in every dirtection. You can buy maps in Silverton of all the trails in the area.

I was there about 10 years ago. We rented a couple jeeps and they gave us maps. I imagine all the shops would sell maps.

That place is amazing. Have fun.

For Jeeps, definitely go towards Silverton and even Lake City. ATV's offer more options. There are TONS of trails up there, you just have to know where to go. You can get maps at motorcycle shops in town. Just pay attention because some of the sights/views are so phenomenol (sp?) that you may drive straight off some cliff if you're not careful.

We atv'd on the alpine loop the last 2 years.
We camped at Lake city and rode right out of camp.
We tried to find trails at Silverton but all of the trails you had to trailer your bikes to the trails.
Awesome area!

Good Luck!
