I wanted to choose alternative resources (in Sious Falls, SD) for my mailing, and for referrals for other things...but frankly, even the thought of going there for a drivers lic scares me....pop in their address at
http://www12.familywatchdog.us/search.asp
and 530!!!!!! offenders come up
Holy cow. That is disgusting and scary. What gives?
Why Full-Timing? Because at my age, I have maybe 40 more chances to see flowers bloom.

Susan,
Are the other places bad too?
Why don't you pick another city?
Take someone with you. Sex offenders are all around and other criminals too. We are just not aware.
Remember Susan, they have been around for years. Don't be startled all of a sudden. Go sign up and don't fret over it.
Enjoy your new life.

I am startled...offender numbers aren't news to me .... but those numbers are out of wack with other areas.... there is a page on that site that lists the numbers per state...and I also checked the escapees address in TX ...which is relatively low (although the state itself is #2 in offenders, behind CA).
The numbers are huge for such a small city...got to wonder why.
I think I'll find a service in MN....lowest numbers in the country.

I don't know if Sioux Falls has a prison within its zip code or not.
I do know locally the small town of Camp Hill has a state prison within zip code 17011. The prison isn't in town by any stretch but shares a zip code, and as odd as it may seem prisons tend to have an inordinately high number of sex offenders per capita.
I wouldn't worry either way but especially not if the vast majority of those sex offenders are currently residents of the state/county.
I suppose if it truly bothers you then you could find out if the prison possibility might answer your question.

The offenders addresses are on the site...not in prison. When you come out of prision is when you register.
Those are large numbers. I'd like to know why. And in comparison to a similar-sized city (chosen randomly), Eugene, Oregon, has a (2005) pop of 145,389 (Sioux Falls 2006 pop is 142,396) with 37 offenders.
And I have to wonder if any of the SD offenders use Alternative Resources themselves.

Not to come off as a wise guy, but seriously, what importance does this hold in regard to a one day visit there?
Seriously, I wouldn't be basing my travels on sex offender registry searches of each area I planned to visit or pass through. Am I missing something?
For the record: no I'm not a sex offender...I'm just curious why this is so important to you.

Susan, I hate to tell you this, but in the rving world of fulltimers, you will find a heavily swayed percentage of sex offenders. Just in Calif alone, there are thousands that LIVE fulltime in rvs , in rv parks.
If what you saw scares you , DO NOT do a meagans law page on every park address you may wish to stay at. It is scary and I pray for the parents of young children rving today.
Just be careful where you park and do the right things to stay safe.
And no, sex offenders cannot use a forwarding address company, or they are not supposed to. They must register with the city police in the city where they reside.

The majority of sex offenders are passive opportunists & not a threat to the average person. The majority also offend against children. It is also possible that SD does a better job registering & monitoring them.

I can tell you that we have spent a lot of time in Sioux Falls, and I far prefer it to LA If that is your reason for not wanting to use a mail service based out of there, you may have a hard time out there in the world.
We have walked the streets of Sioux Falls...everywhere. It is a clean, well run city. Couldn't even find a bad neighborhood, compared to LA, DC or many other large cities we have explored.
We are proud to call it our home...at least we know where the offenders are, there Not like LA........
