Anyone have a new jetta diesel?
What kind of fuel mileage do you get and can it be towed?

Doubt it. A month ago the dealer here said they would have a demo in June but first orders wouldn't arrive till the fall. Just looking at their website it looks like they are claiming about the same mileage numbers as the 06.

I am looking at these. No mpg info on the website yet for '08 Jetta TDI models. Interesting feature I found though- it has a 2-speed transaxle, so the 5 spd tranny ends up being a 10 speed, if it uses both transaxle ratios in normal driving. Maybe that's part of how they get the supposed 60 mpg with it, by always keeping the engine in the 'sweet spot'... And the torque curve on that engine is flat from 1600 to 2500 rpm, just like a diesel should be. Looks like VW really 'gets it'. Too bad the Americans dont 'get it' too...

Honda has a diesel Accord that gets similar mileage without the special urea treatment gizmo that VW is using. They're claiming their setup is 50-state legal and will be in the showrooms here in August. The 2009 model year is going to be very interesting!

I am near the port that VW uses. I see many of these new Jetta's waiting to go to the dealers. You should call a dealer near mr (RI) and ask them.

See epa mileage estimates for the diesels here. Not really that much better than the more fuel efficient gassers. IMHO with the price differential of diesel these days, these dont look nearly as attractive as they once did.
