If one only compares the cost of of staying in a hotel with the purchase of a motor home well you can stay in a lot of hotels for a lot less that you pay for an RV. We have and use our RV because we enjoy the life style, not to save money on hotels. It will always be more expensive to own and operate an RV that staying in hotels.

There doesn't seem to be much selling at the Mid Range on E-Bay either! There isn't much incentive to bid on something that has a starting bid higher than what it should sell for. Or A "No Reserve" that shows a starting price period! To Me No Reserve should mean "ALL" Offers and the Highest Bid Buys it!

If you are willing to wait until Sept for the prices to drop why not wait until November when they may drop more? Heck, just wait forever and they will be giving them away. If you want a motorhome buy one or wait and don't have one to enjoy. Your choice.

I feel its like buying a automobile today.
GM has had a 72 hour sale to get rid of their Trucks.
To me I rather wait a few months and see what I can get NEW.
Yes I can buy something NEW today for cash on Ebay or local.
But I would hate to see that if I waited till sept or oct I could have save at least another $5000,$10,000.
I feel many companys will be out of business,But even if you pay MSRP they still can go out of business.
Too me I rather fly from NYC and take a cab from the airport to wherever my RV will be.I have only been looking on the websites the last year
But since the economy sucks, maybe it will be the time to buy something...
I am not looking for something as a tradein(but then again you never know}

UPDATED
I pay cash for my car every 2 or 3 years...
Why would I want to pay interest on something I can just pay off in cash and not worry about a payment??Thanks JT

So, you are "supposedly" a responsible buyer and want to wait to get a newer than new automobile. I'll keep paying cash for the clean, slightly used ones and let people like you take the depreciation hit up front.
I just want to use it as a getaway for a month or 2 a year.I would think it would off set the hotel cost....Jt

I agree, but there are lots of tricks to get around selling at the lowest bid on ebay if you don't want it to go for that.

How true, lol.

Prices dropping like a rock?

It depends on what you call "dropping like a rock". In spring of 2006 when the "bottom was falling out" the "smart ones" decided to wait and probably still are waiting.

Interest rates went up, prices stayed literally the same, and there was no fire sale that I remember. Some probably never bought at all. Were they smart? Time will tell.

As I said,I will not be useing it this summer.
I would leave it in the Napa Valley or Malibu area.
I thought maybe it would be great to have a RV when I want to get away
for a month or so.Just hop on a plane to L.A. and the RV would be waiting.
I just see a RV as a better investment then buying a $60,000 Mustang Shelby.
I would think since the economy sucks
And many people are losing money
Maybe there will be deals(Big Deals} in sept}
Look at GM selling their trucks this weekend for their 72 hour truck sale.
Yeaaaaa cannot say the many RV dealers will not do the same.
Yep I agree many just talk and never buy anything. But If I see something
thats well worth it I will jump in.
And If I don't use the Rv as much as I think I will then I will be wasting my money.Geeee I think I am always wasting money on many things that I don't use lol.....Jt

Maybe you can also follow some of the threads that are identifying which dealers are going out of business which are selling at liquidation prices or at the least when the bank starts auctioning of their inventory (I believe you need cash or have your financing in place when you bid on a unit at an auction).

You can also follow the web sites that sell rvs such as rvtrader. when I visit the site from time to time I see listings (especially late model/newer rigs) dropping their asking prices (by a bunch).

Not being in a hurry or by emotional type purchasing is your best allie.

Good luck on your search, oh lastly you may find that when purchasing an rv investment is not the word to describe your purchase. The sales person will most likely use the word investment often.

If you like motels and have doubts about RVing then don't RV. I shopped a week ago and asked the salesman how business was and he said it was great!! Of course my wife and I didn't trip over a crowd while looking. Maybe I'm behind but is Alfa in trouble? THey had one for $308,000. I didn't know they even sold for that much. They do have some really great features.
