I'm from the old school - I like to keep bacon grease and also left over Canola Oil from frying chicken or round steak. But how do you keep yours in your RV? Refrigerate or sit on the counter? I have 2 seperate containers on the counter...wonder if they should be refrigerated, and if so, WHERE to put them in the fridge...not much room.

My mother never refrigerated her bacon grease. She had a little metal canister beside the stove that was made for grease and that's where she kept hers. I don't keep it. After I fry bacon at home I pour the grease into a bowl and stick in the fridge and dump it in the trash after it gets hard. If I were to keep it I would scrape it into a mayo or peanut butter jar, but after it's cool.
I do keep oil or grease in my Fry Daddy for a while. I keep the lid on it and store it on top of the fridge, but that's in the house, not rv. I don't keep oil and grease in the rv.

My mother and grandmother also had the metal containers for holding bacon grease and never refrigerated it. I'd love to find one of those, but instead I use a wide-mouth quart canning jar to keep mine in and the jar sits in a plastic bin in a cabinet. NOTHING adds flavor like bacon grease! But I sure don't take any chances on it getting spilled on or in a cabinet!

I bought one of the stainless bacon grease containers from WalMart (I think)
I've had it for several years and I love it. I just move it into the pantry when we're traveling. You should be able to find one on the internet. Lindy

My mother and grandmothers also kept their bacon grease in a container on the stove but I don't. Here is why. In the old days bacon grease was used on an almost daily basis and it didn't have time go go rancid. I don't use it quick enough to leave it out on the counter. As good a flavor as bacon grease adds to food I realize that it probably isn't that good for us or our arteries. I do save bacon grease in a pint jar the fridge at home and in the camper.
Really aren't potatoes fried in bacon grease just the best? Not to mention a small spoonful added to green beans or stirred into cornbread batter. YUMMY !!!

we use to save it in a coffee can with a plastic lid at home but we dont save it any more,it will last for awhile befor going bad.in the rv we use fresh all the time then throw it away it could make to much of a mess if it gets knocked over.we dont like to fry much inside unless we have to.

I keep mine where my mother did - in an empty soup can in the fridge. Never have left it out and I've never had a problem with it turning rancid. I don't see how people can fry an egg in butter - it's got be bacon grease

I cook my bacon at home until it's almost done. I use my George Forman Grill and cook 5 lbs of thick bacon at a time. Once cooled I put it in a big Ziplock baggie and freeze it. I pull out a few pieces at a time when needed and microwave for about a minute. Not only does this save time, but our 5er doesn't smell like bacon afterward and I don't have to deal with the grease in the RV.
At home I do collect the bacon grease and pour it into a jar once it's cooled and close it with a lid. Then I toss it out. This is the way our local waste management has asked us to dispose of grease.
My husband's family always reused their bacon grease for everything. Heck, they even spread it on their biscuits instead of butter. Of course, they all died at a relatively young age of heart attacks too.
