I've often heard that once they get a little older they either want to sleep in a tent, or they just crash where they are - ie in front of the living room tv. Ours 3 kids are little still, but I could see it being true in a few years. The center section doesn't really have any room to "entertain" or for mixing. I see us at one end, and them at the other. We've been thinking about bunk houses, but I'm afraid I'm going to miss my rear living floorplan too much.

For those of you who have them, do you still use them?

Our TT has bunks and our nephews, age 10, fight over who gets the top bunk. Our camping buddies TT has two sets of bunks and their daughters, age 14 & 16, and their friends use the bunks.

I would say it depends on the bunk room. I had a Cruiser fifth wheel where the bunks were just for sleeping. No room back there at all.

My current Silverback has 2 slide outs in the bunk room with 2 sofas and its own 1/2 bath. Plenty of space to just hang out, play on the floor watch tv or read a book.

Our Grandkids are still young (6 & 3) but they love it. Its got a flip down sofa that they can sit on and watch TV and it makes out to a full. When its only the two of them we flip up the upper bunk over the sofa so there is head room above it. I think when they get a little older they will still use it. We have a 06 Wildcat 32QBBS.

Our Fleetwood 295BHDS has a slide out bunk room that has a jackknife bed and upper bunk that folds up out of the way. There is also an entertainment center for a television and game system, as well as storage for clothes, etc. The room has a door so they can have privacy and we can have ours too. We figure it will also work well as a guest room.

Here in Texas, tent camping is pretty rough in the summer...

103 in the day, cools down to 85 at night. So, it also depends on where ya'll are camping

My fiver has a separate bunk room in the back, with a hard door, jack-knife sofa and three bunks capable of sleeping an adult up to 250 lbs. When we have adults accompany us, they usually prefer the bunkroom, since it has more privacy than sleeping on the sleep sofa in the LR.

You are right, in that the bunkroom floorplans sacrifice LR seating -- there's usually just the sofa. This makes it difficult if you have a bunch of adults/kids in there trying to have a conversation. I guess we're supposed to do that stuff outside. There are floorplans that have a full LR (sofa plus recliners) plus a bunkroom, but they are 40 feet long and heavy.

Our kids use ours...they would never sleep outside without AC in the South when given the option. We have very wide bunks and we adults have slept in them on occasion too. Yes, you sacrifice some room in the rest of the fiver but we find it is good for us.

we went out in our new 316qbs Cougar this weekend front bunk , kids stayed up front and the new sectional sofa/table design worked well for a few rounds of Dominos as well fron bunks are not huge but the average person could sleep up there ,as stated summer tent camping down here would make anyone crawl into them with cool ac blowin. After the 4th we are going to a local lake and full time for a while (while i go to work from there that is ) see ya soon Marty

True, but if it's raining, too hot, or too cold (Michigan remember), then you pretty much want inside. Otherwise I'd just get a big ol honkin' tent.

As for 40'ers...that's what we've been looking at. The Silverback with opposing slides is not far from that. If there's a unit with a "full LR", I'd like to see it. I haven't found one really.
