I have to do a turn around in my cul de sac which most times is not a problem. However this weekend there were a couple of cars parked on the street so I really had to make a tight turn. The tires on the rv were really dragging. Causing a lot of flex. Can these axels handle this on a regular basis? Tires? I noticed that the tires are getting scuffed up a bit but I really do not have any other choices other than backing all the way down my street. I guess I will keep an eye on the tires and see what happens.

I live in a cul de sac but likely I am at the point where it opens up and only have to pull into the middle and back into my driveway.
I would say the axles can handle the stress but the scuffed tires and torque on the wheels might be another story.

i ask my neighbors if they mind moving their car temporarily. I tell them I'm not very good a backing up and am afraid i may hit their car. They usually say "no problem,"

I would have done just that but the problem is they were at the lake we just left so that was not an option.

I go past and back down. It's practice, but makes me look really good at the campsite. I was told a couple of days ago that I "must be a trucker because I did that so well". My reply, "Nope. I work on a computer all day! Thanks though."

If the tires are really scuffing and warping, keep some sand in your TV. Next time you get into a situation like that, put the sand on the road or drive and the tires slip and slide like butter.

i too live on a cul-de-sac and have the same problem. i live at the end of the cul-de-sac so i have to turn all the way around and then back in the driveway. i think there would be more stress on the tires than the axles.

for me, i would be more concerned if i did this every day, but i only have make that turn 6 to 8 times a season.

I have to drive past and back down too. I've niticed that the tires are scuffing when I making the turn to start backing down. I don't think there's anything I can do to avoid it. I'm sure it's putting a lot of stress on the bearings too. I think it's probably happening a lot when I'm driving forward too, but I just don't notice it as much.

I too live in a cul-de-sac. Lived here since 97', I'm probably at my limit of trailer length, with sig. TV at 22' and sig. 5er at 38' 6", when I make my turn, I'm taking it as wide as I can, but inside tire still scuff's. I figure the manufacturer understands this can happen when they engineer the frame, axle's and the manufacturer of the tire,(unless the manufacturer of the tire is in China), builds his tire. Trailers "should" be able to do this. I've yet to have a problem with tires, axles, chassis etc...I've wondered about it, but again, have never had a problem. I do keep my tires at max. psi., I believe that helps the stress on the sidewall. All the years I've been turning around in the cul-de-sac just doesn't add up enough to cause an issue. Unless someone has done a lousy job installing your axles or you have bad tires, or don't keep them inflated correctly, then I'd say you "might" have a problem.
