Yep, it sounds like you do not have the auto switch over regulator...
Do you need it? No. I don't use the sticker things.. If I have a question on how full the tank is, I just pick it up and stir it around. If I don't want to remove it from the trailer, I'll pour some hot water on it and feel for the cold part. Up to the cold is approx how full it is.
I like my auto switch feature! It's saved me a couple of times of running the furnance at night and running out of gas on one tank sometime during the night.
Since I only go weekend camping, I'm turning on and off the tanks within 3-4 days anyway, so I have a chance to check them. I've never gone thru a full tank in a 3-4 day weekend, so as long as I have 'some' in one tank and a full one to switch to, I'm good.. I get the empty one filled when I get back home, so I don't forget!
Works for me, but I can also see the other side where people want to know the minute a tank runs out..
I just put an auto change over on yesterday. Mine use to draw from both tanks at the same time, so when I ran out........I was OUT. What a PITA it was.

Are you sure? On a 2006? Interesting. The switch on the regulator is simply a manual way of telling which cylinder you are using. I don't even use it, just use a magic marker on the tank with date of refill or need to refill.

I didn't think they still came with manual valves any more...
I really like the auto-switch, it only takes about 3 seconds to check it, if I don't do that I figure I deserve to run out...
mine seems to only run out and change over between 2 and 3 AM (maybe some kind of conspiracy), I think that's enough of a reason to like them right there...

EnglishBulldog wrote: As a fellow newbie...how does one know when one of the tanks is empty? Mine is hooked up to electric while parked at the house.
when it runs out and theres no flame...... I have a manual change over and when I run out I know I'm empty and change over otherwise I don't worry about it But once I change over I always fill the empty one asap......

EnglishBulldog wrote: Follow-up: I went out and checked my tanks. I don't have anything special; just two tanks, two hoses leading to one grey metal round thing. Do I need an auto changeover thing or do those tank indicator sticker things work???
I had that and would only open one tank. Sometimes I would forget from one trip to the next which tank I was using and end up with 2 low tanks! I put in an automatic changeover so I now have a pointer to show me and then refill the empty as soon as it changes over and I move the manual pointer to make the indicator green again.
