Several come to mind. In about '65 or '66 (age 16), I ran across a 650 Triumph or BSA - can't remember which - single carb, all chromed up including frame, for $300!! I went to look at it, test rode it, but couldn't come up with the money. In about 1968 or 69 (age 19), there was a used '67 yellow 427 Corvette roadster in the local VW dealer's used car lot for $5,000. I test drove it, but it didn't run right. Didn't matter, since I didn't have the $5,000 either.
In the mid 80's, I bought a number of Corvettes, however. I still have the '70 all original yellow big block, along with a '65 roadster, so no complaints.

Yes, most were. He had the black and gray seats. But with $3.50 HR part time job I could not afford the first set of tires.

Ex-brother-in-law had a 69 GTO with blown up 400 he sold for $1800 about 10 years ago without offering it to me. Coulda kicked his arse for that.
I always wanted a 69 Z28 camaro w/4-speed. I settled for my second favorite generation of camaro and own a 89 IROC red w/T-Tops. It mostly sits but runs and drives OK. Someday I will dump some $$ into that baby and restore it. If I can quit putting $$ into my Banshee that may happen someday.
I always liked the 69 Mach 1 and 67 fastback but not nearly as much as the camaro.
A Hemi Cuda or Charger would have been sweet to get my hands on back when you still could.

1970 in high school looking for a first car. Mid-60s Porsche 356 "Super 90" for $1995. The same price as new Beetle about $300 less that a new Spitfire.
Dad helped me get a practical Plymouth Duster, after a failed year with a new Chrysler Sunbeam Alpine (styled like an early Barracuda)that had a cracked block. After selling us this this defective car, the dealer made us a "deal" on the Duster.
well, I did get a car that got me through college, and I am grateful for my Dad's help to get transportation. I doubt I could've made it that far with the Super 90. But you always look back.
I would love to have my 85 Kenny Roberts RZ350 back. Drunk driver took care of that.
The 71 Datsun 510 I had built to the hilt... sold to pay for food for my new son.......... sound familiar...
The worst... 1971 Dodge Challenger 440 six pack/4 speed. 1500.00 in 83. Blown clutch. Scraped the money together, but was unable to find a trailer to get it home. Guy from school bought it from under me... hope he still has it.....

Nothing like the original. I saw my first Mustang on the street in April, '64. White convertible, rally pak, 260 V8. It burned an impression in my mind that exists to this day.
You got the year right....'64 1/2, just as Ford introduced it.
I was selling those puppies back then (Sherrill Minter Ford, Kansas City, Kansas). Ford never labeled the early cars as "64 1/2", that was a term dreamed up by fanciers to distinguish those first cars from the ones made after July (9th?), that incorporated a lot of small changes. Those first Mustangs were titled as 1965 models; there were no 1964 Mustangs.
I sold my 68 Formula S Fastback Barracuda for $700 to buy a .............78 Toyota pickup. I had the motor, trans and front end rebuilt. It was a numbers matching car with every option. I passed on a pair of Maico MX bikes. One was an 81 490 and one was a 78 400. Both were well maintained ridden once a month and kept garaged. I was a new father of twin boys and couldn't come up with $600. Today raceable 490's are in the $5g area, restored "Cudas" are in the $20g range.
