What would be your recommendation for the best route from Sedona, Az to Gunnison, CO. We have a 40ft. MH and toad. Thank you for your help.

Many won't like my preferred route but.... I'd take AZ 179 to I-17 north to I-40. Take that east to Gallup, NM and U.S. 550 north to Montrose, CO and go east out of Montrose to Gunnison. Don't know that route number. On the way on 550 you'd go through Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgeway to Montrose. Gorgeous scenic route. Between Durango and Silverton you'd be on the Million Dollar Highway with mountain passes and sheer dropoffs but nothing to worry about unless you rubberneck too much and do something stupid. We've never travelled that way with anything as big as yours but we've seen plenty like that along with big trailers. Whatever, have fun.

RRUGG's route is a good one however if mountain driving is not your thing,as there are no guardrails in spots but most of the time you will be on the mountain side when you get to Cortez CO. you can take 145 north to Placerville just north of Telluride and 62 to Ridgway and north 550 to Montrose east 50 to Gunnison this will get you around the serious parts of 550 it is also a mountain route but no big drop offs and less traffic. Have fun

Stay off any highway with the word `scenic' used to describe it; especially 89A! They may be but will be narrow, hilly, with lots of curves; great for a Miata but not a 40 ft. MH.
I'd stay with interstates as much as possible.

From what I have read since I posted, the 550 isn't our cup of tea. Wondering if the 89 to the 160 to 163 to 191 and then up to the I-70 East is less of a white knuckle experience? Anyone take this route? Thanks for the help.

This is more miles but less driving in the mountains:

IH-40 east to IH-25 North to Santa Fe. Then take Highway 285 north to Saguache, co. Then take Highway 114 west to Highway 50 west and a short ride to Gunnison.

You could also take RRUGG's route as written above but when you get to Durango, take 160 east to 285 and then 114. I believe that Wolf Creek Pass is the only pass you will have to travel over but the roads are good.

Use 160 to get to Cortez, Co then either take 491 up to 141 over to Naturita and then 145 and 62 to Ridgway. OR take 145 from Cortez up to Telluride and then head for Ridgway on 62 to pick up the 550 north to Montose. Some minor curvy road and a few easy passes going through Telluride and nothing difficult to speak of using the Naturita route.

We will definitely stay off of the 89A, and the 550. It just looks like an easy shot to go up the 160/163/191 to the I-70. But as we have learned in the past, looks are very deceiving. Thanks

I would get to Flagstaff the easiest way out to I 17 - (I figure you can do that) then 89 to 160, to Kayenta then north through Monument Valley - stop o'night and take the 1/2 day tour!) then to 191at Bluff and north through Moab to I 70.east to Grandjunction and south on 50 to Gunnison. See Monument Valley, Canyonland NP, Arches NP and Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. on your way.
Enjoy

Having driven most of them, I'd use GizmosMom's route. I think it would be the least "stressful".
