We're driving down to Omaha NE from Calgary AB on or about the 16th of July to pick up an new RV we've purchased down there and would really appreciate some "Must See" RV parks/lakes etc. on our way back home. I think mapquest is taking us through Montana and South Dakota before getting to Nebraska on the way down, but we'd like to take a little different angle on the way home and wouldn't mind travelling out of our way to find some nice spots. I'm just guessing that there might be some nice places in Wyoming and may even consider detouring up into Idaho if there was something awesome to see there, then back through Montana before crossing the border at Sweetgrass and back up to Calgary, AB. We would like some parks with full service since we'll be spending a bit of time at each and with 3 girls in the unit we'll be going through the water so full hookups would probably be real handy. We'll be travelling via the Interstates on the way down to make time, but probably won't seem much. In reality we're probably looking for 3 different locations to spend 3 or 4 day's at each. Thanks Much in advance.
A suggested route with lots to see, from Omaha west 92 to Broken Bow northwest 2 to Alliance north 9 miles to 385 north to Mt.Rushmore area stay 2 or 3 days Mt. Rushmore especially the night show,Badlands,Wall Drug, everyone should see once,Crazy Horse,Deadwood Jewel Caves,Custer State Park to name a few spots,I-90 west to Sundance north 14 to 24 to Devils Tower back 24 to 113 and I-90 this is a 59 mile loop but is worth it to stay a night at the Devils Tower KOA for the movie in the evening,I-90 west to Buffalo WY. west 16 over the mountains to Worland north 16/20 to Greybull west 20 to Cody at least a day or 2 Buffalo Bill Center takes at least a day and rodeos 20 west to Yellowstone alot of people like to stay at Fishing Bridge inside the park full HU we like Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone MT.,depending on your time you may want to drop down to the Grand Teton's Jackson is 127 miles south could spend a couple days here and leave by 22 to 31 to 26 to I-15 north to Butte or from West Yellowstone north 191 to 287 west through Ennis to 2 northwest to I-90 to Butte north I-15 to Shelby west 2 to Browning north 89 to St. Mary tour Glacier Natl. Park Going to the Sun Road Red Bus tour a must you can also visit Waterton Lakes Natl. Park from here on day trip about an 80 mile round trip cross back into Canada at Carway and a straight shot on Canadian 2 back to Calgary. Places we have stayed all with full HU and most with pools Hot Springs SD KOA,Rafter J Bar Ranch Mt. Rushmore area,Deer Park Buffalo WY.,Ponderosa good location and Absaroka Bay Cody WY.,Grizzly West Yellowstone MT.,The Virginian Jackson WY.,Johnson's of St. Mary MT. Have a great first trip. Have fun
Thanks much for the "Play by Play" Nevada Jim, that makes things pretty easy. Just program into the Nav system and away we go. By "Must See's" eubank, I mean what would be some places you would visit, have visited or would return to visit again. We do very much want nice RV Park/Campsites as well in the area so we can make a day trips out to see the attractions and then head back to the RV Park/Campsite after. Would also be nice if the campsites allowed fires unless fire ban's are in effect then I would just use our portable propane firepit and pretend
I'm looking for a little more direction since we sitting right now in West Yellowstone and Planning our final route backk to Calgary via Coutts/Sweetgrass border crossing. While in south dakota we stayed at the Devils Tower KOA and it gave us a good base for touring Mt rushmore/Crazyhorse etc., but if we had to do it again we would have stayed closer to Mt Rushmore in the Black hills as we found that a very beautiful area. While in Wyoming we stayed a couple days at Cody and then the rest at West Yellowstone KOA as the Cody RV park wasn't much to brag about. Anyway, enough of the travel itinery, but we would like to know if there are any real nice campsites along a river or something on our way back. It can be dry as we picked up a new honda EU3000SI and are itching to try it out anyway so a campsite somewhere near Great Falls or in that vacininty to break up the trip back. We probably won't even unhook as we'll be on the road again the next morning so we're just looking for something with a nice setting, maybe by a river with nice trees etc.

I would recommend a new post since the last was at the beginning of the month. That way you will get a wider audience. Hope you are taking lots of pictures for a full report when you are done. ;-)
Hey, we just did the same thing, bought our RV from Bozeman Montana and camped near there, saw Yellowstone and camped our way home. Great Falls only has 2 campgrounds in town, a KOA (expensive!!!) and Dick's Rv. Smooth sailing through the border, just tell them you are importing a trailer and include the price of the trailer on your list of items you brought home. Go in and pay your GST and thats it till you get home. hope you get a friendly border agent. If you have any questions, just ask.
