The ranger at the lake said I could drive my 40' DP with car in tow around the lake on the west rim. He said there are many pull outs. I'm a little concerned since the last ranger that said I was ok gave me the green light to enter Zion from the north - "you can get through the tunnel" - well I'm 13'3" and the tunnel height is posted at 13'1". Has anyone driven the west rim of Crater Lake in their rig? I'll be entering off 97 from the south of the lake.

Doc, a few years ago we drove the west west rim and stopped off at the lodge. I made the drive just fine, but in a 28' Class C and pulling my Ford Ranger. I remember there was some white-knuckling by my wife, but if you just take your time and don't let anyone rush you, you should be fine. We were able to find parking at the lodge to have lunch. Great vistas and places to pull out to view the lake as you drive the west rim. The lodge is a great place to have lunch and take in the views.

You could drive on the west rim of Crater Lake with your MH and toad, but why would you want to?
The lake and most of the pulloffs are on the left. It is like going down (south) the Oregon coast is far better then going up the coast. Going clockwise around Crater Lake is better idea. (I wish they would make it a one way)
Take the toad loose from the MH and enjoy the drive around the lake. You will enjoy it a lot more.
I (2-10-05) bought a 2002 F350 CC SWD PSD and a new 2003 Citation 10'8. Rancho 9000X & Toyo M55's.I have been a tent camper all my life. I wanted more comfort while doing my Willamette Backcountry Ski Patrol & Crater Lake Ski Patrol duties.11
Agreed - there is ample truck parking at the lodge (lots of tourist busses), so why not unhook there and take the toad around the rim? It's a great drive!
